HM3: Headgear-Modern

I've just published the latest set of items for HeroMachine 3, "Headgear-Modern". It includes some of the appropriate items from Headgear-Standard and a more or less complete port of updated HeroMachine 2.5 pieces from the same set. Here's a sample:

Let me know any problems you encounter, or missing items you'd like to see as part of the set, in the comments below.

    My geek-o-meter just broke.

Keep em coming Jeff! Every time you make an update I see something that I wish was there for a previous character I made. Its makes me excited, happy and frustrated all at the same time. 🙂

  2. Jake says:

    Looks pretty sweet, Jeff.

I was looking over the 2.5 ModernCommon set and noticed that some of the items are missing in HM3. I don’t know whether you’re planning on adding them in a different set or what, but I’m hoping we can still get these items.

The Jeffmeister is on a roll! Keep up the good work Jeff!

  4. NEON_N64 says:

    Yes !!

I wanted a crown, and now I have it 🙂

    Well done!

  5. Sean From Edwards says:

Strange as this sounds are we going to get the bubble space helmet again? I actually need it for something I’m making, and using a background circle makes moving the whole assembly a pain since you can’t stitch assemblies together.

  6. Rosco says:

    Best top hat yet!

  7. MartianBlue says:

    @Jeff
    completely off topic
I meant to mention this awhile back, and it slipped my mind.
If you decide to do more fonts here’s a site I like to use
    http://cooltext.com/
It says you can use then however you want, without permission. You may want to check it out.

  8. Solander says:

Jeff, are you planning on adding the Fantasy Headgear from HM 2.5?

  9. Huh…could you add a bandana? I remember one of those for some reason…Or could you make another cowboy hat? I really like the new(old) hats!

  10. Hammerknight says:

Great job, can’t wait to use the new hats.

  11. Jeff Hebert says:

Jake (#2): In my opinion the items missing from Modern Common were crap, and I don’t intend to port them over.

Oquies (#6): There was a tiara, but I added the fancier crown.

Sean From Edwards (#7): What set was that in? It should probably go in somewhere in 3.0 but I am not sure where.

Solander (#10): Yes, Fantasy Headgear will be ported at some point.

Nicholas (#11): I’m sorry, it’s late and I’m tired so hopefully this won’t come off as rude, but have you looked at the set? There is a head-worn full bandanna, a face-worn full bandanna, and a rolled-up forehead bandanna. Every conceivable bandanna-like item from 2.x is now in 3 and more. There are also like five cowboy hats already. I think that’s more than enough.

  12. Jeff Hebert says:

Martian Blue (9): Thanks for the link! Looks like an awesome site.

  13. Jake says:

Aw, I liked some of those hats. The Davy Boon hat at least is a must and I really enjoyed the hat that looked like something Fidel Castro would wear.

@Sean from Edwards: I don’t know if this solves your problem at all, but instead of using a background circle you might experiment with an ‘Insignia’ circle or an ‘Item Right: Energy’ bubble. That said, I too would love one of those old-school bubble space helmets, with antennae and corrugated air hoses and a little mic on the front and one of those big padded collars that went so well with 50’s-Sci-Fi-movie Michelin Man spacesuits.

  15. Kalkin says:

Gas masks require more variety. I tried to go for the Intimidating-faceless-army-goon-with-scary-gas-mask-look, like the guys you shoot in First person shooters (FEAR, Half-life 1&2, Soldier of fortune 2, Red faction 1&2 etc.), but all the gas masks in HM2,5 and HM3 are too practical looking to get that intimidation factor.

nice update jeff… i know i may have said this before but i would love to see a pilgrims steepled hat for a witch hunter type character

  17. andrew says:

i would like to see a samurai helmet

  18. laura says:

Very nice! I wold like to see a wizard and a witch’s hat, should be nice.

  19. Me, Myself & I says:

    I second andrew’s (23) request although it doesn’t quite fit into the Modern Headgear category. I am just including it here now while I’m thinking about it in case I forget later. A Samurai helmet would be a great addition. Here are some examples that I thought interesting;

Although this is not a Samurai helmet, I thought it quite interesting with a lot of potential as well.

  20. Jack Zelger says:

Jeff, your recent update includes the camouflage army helmet. Can we have a slight variation without any camo?

  21. captperv says:

you have a maids uniform could you get a little maids hat
you know just to finish out the outfit 🙂

  22. Dustyn says:

I would really like to start seeing more items in the “Tops” and the “Legwear” categories. I am beginning to get irritated as I build characters because there aren’t many options to choose from, thereby making them all seem too similar in a bad way.

  23. BangYourHead says:

I know its nothing to do with headgear, but is there any chance of us getting an ItemRight heavy weapons category? RPGs, bazookas, that kind of thing…

  24. Cam says:

    headgear looks great!
I don’t know how hard it would be to do in your program, but perhaps you could have an option to combine all “layers” into one so that no matter how custom your character’s apparel is, you can make the whole body slightly invisible without having to deal with darker overlays. A slightly transparent character usually takes their clothes with them, if at all possible, lol.

btw, i’ve been geekin’ out to this version for far too many hours already. love everything you’ve done!

i think u should make a heromachine that lets u create ur lair

  26. Hey Jeff! Long time no talk to!

My 11 year old son stumbled upon my “complimentary” CD of HeroMachine 2.0 a few days ago and started playing around with it. We, of course, re-encountered the bug where the save information doesn’t include left hand items so I came online to see if I could track down the “upgrade” for it and discovered HM 3.0 Beta.

I must say the modified UI looks nice – it’s so awesome to see you’re developing the application further, and all the new items too. I think I’m going to have to start paying attention to your website again. 😉

    Talk at you later,
    :-j(enni)

  27. Giles Hart says:

Keep up the great work friend.

Would you be able to add clothes and weapons from the Dynasty and Samurai Warriors periods because that’s what I focus my Hero Machine characters on?

If you can, here are images to help you if you need them. 🙂
