SOD.129 – The Sighted King

This whole drawing is worth it just for the line of his lower lip. That's a good line. It's just the right thickness at the bottom, with just the right amount of tapering as it goes up into the light, and just the right distance from the mustache before it fades off to white. That one line is a thousand times better than the entirety of that djinn drawing from yesterday.

Yes, this is the kind of thing I look at in my own work. Sometimes just that one line can make it all worthwhile.

    Yes… It is a very nice line…

Good job. I like the headband with the chainmail. That’s pretty cool.

lol, I can hear the “Back slowly away from the crazy man” sentiment in your comment, MartianBlue! I’m nuts, I know, but even a victory as small as one line can make me all tingly.

I rather enjoy hearing about this. As someone who was never very good at sketching, I think it is pretty enjoyable to hear about your work process. I also agree about what you were saying about yesterday’s djinn. At first, it looked fine. When I looked closer at it, I saw a lot of the faults that were bugging you. This SOD is a great comeback. I especially like the beard and the old face.

haha. I think we all obsess over our characters (lines included). If this rpg thing works out, as many fantasy sketches as you’ve done, you should gather them up, and create your own rpg with them.

This one is EXTREMELY excellent. It proves that you have fantastic art inside of you, and that an old dude can look Ok in battle gear. (:P) The crown is cool with the feathers, and I like your scaly chainmail thing that you have going on. (I draw chainmail like this- oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. With less space in between) All in all, a very good picture.
