I've just uploaded an update for the HM3 alpha that hopefully will fix the problem with the layers getting hosed up beyond all belief when you load saved character. Unfortunately it looks like this has also broken the "Move to bottom" function and introduced a new error when loading a saved character where things are getting masked to the wrong items.
But, I wanted to put this up there for now to see if at least the layering problem is fixed. Give it a shot and let me know -- I THINK you can load old characters and it ought to work properly.
Jeff that sounds like my life, fix one thing and break three.
Thanks Jeff! That definetly fixed the layer problem (with old characters).
I have the masking error, but a small price to pay imo (I don’t do much masking)
“Move to Bottom” are you referring to the layer buttons? If so, I don’t seem to have that problem.
Jeff,
not sure you were aware of this problem but the multiple items button resets after you reload a previously saved file.
@MartianBlue: Wahoo! Thanks for the report. The Move To Bottom is in the “Transform” tab, you can take an item and make it go to the bottom of the stack. Or at least, you used to be able to. The individual items still each have their “move up/down one layer” buttons which seem to be working properly, as are the one layer at a time buttons in Transform.
@Paul: Thanks for the report, that is something I am aware of and will need to code in at some point. It hadn’t occurred to me to put that in when I did the load/save stuff so I’ll have to add later. Hooray for alphas!
@ Jeff, Yes we’re talking about the same button. They all work fine for me. The single up and down, and the top and bottom as well.
Hunh. I’ll have to re-check that then, I’d swear it was goofing up on me …
They are working okay here Jeff.
@Hammerknight: It’s the same with me, except it’s break three things, fix one.
By the way, that was for your first post just incase you didn’t notice.
Like the old saying take one step forward and get knocked back two. Heck I wear out a pair shoes once before I even left the store. Talk about getting not where fast.
I’m actually having a different problem.
I’ve loaded a character I saved earlier, deleted a few items, but when I try to add new ones all the deleted items come back.
Anyone else seen this?
I was working on a piece for the weekend post and it would spontaneously decide to revert to the save file in the middle of my work–not usually a problem, except for the massive layer screw-ups that happened every time. Also, the same item kept apparently causing the problem. It would glitch (meaning unable to click-and-drag, show the wrong location, etc.) every time I tried to add it, then right after that it would reset to the save file.
Wow, that’s weird. OK, I’ll check it out. That definitely shouldn’t happen.
How about this for a problem, Jeff: when i load an old character, my computer generates an emp and destroys everything electronic within a mile radius!

Seriously, though, you’re doing awesome work and it is much appreciated. π
That’s a feature, not a bug Darkvatican.
Hey Jeff, just had a load issue. It was with a character I was just working on. I saved him last night, and loaded today. When he loaded, the patterns I had on all the body surfaces were gone, and the layers were wrong. Not that big a deal on the surface, but then I went to edit and ran into some other problems. I fixed the layers, but wehn I switched to another category, the layers reverted. When I try loading a new category, the wrong one loads. For example, I chose footleft, and got zombie body parts. It would take a bit of clicking to get it to display the correct category. And when I did change category’s, it would revert to the original saved image, deleting all of my additions.
Hope this helps.
Running Firefox, everything is up to date
@ Gene: I had a similar problem earlier this week. Jeff has been tweaking the code and such to improve performance, and a few new glitches crept in.
My suggestion is to dump your private data and reload the page and your character. Also make sure that your Multiple Items aren’t showing up as Singles; reset the categories back to Multiple if they’re changed. (This glitch can happen one time and not the next.)
If there’s still a problem after that, Jeff will have to take another look at the code and see if that’s the problem.
Thanks Damien, I appreciate the assist.
Let me start off by saying that I have been extremely impressed so far with this software.
I am also still seeing bugs with layering on saved characters. In addition I am seeing the masking stop to function when I try to mask more than two items. Sometimes it HM3 starts to loose items and they can no longer be edited.
Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing HM3 in its finished state.
