HM3: Atlas twitched

I just wanted to give a quick status report as the new week begins. I am currently drawing Shoulder items, using the vast array of references submitted in the last post, for which I thank you all tremendously -- there are some pretty cool things going in already, and I've only drawn twelve of them! Here's a quick look at four samples:

shoulders

These should be done and posted in the next couple of days.

Looking Good! Especially the second one!

  2. Anarchangel says:

oooooooh! They look great. Can’t wait to see more.

  3. Scorpidius says:

Gonna have to put a character on hold until that skull shoulder pad becomes available, it looks fantastic!!

    Scop

  4. neon_n64 says:

    Wow !

    They look awesome!

I can’t wait to see the rest!

  5. Jigglypuff says:

    They are totally rockalious!

  6. redvector says:

One looks like the shoulder weapon from the Preadator movie…sweet.

  7. Jeff Hebert says:

@redvector: Any resemblance to any copyrighted item, living or dead, is purely coincidental. Ahem.

  8. paul says:

Jeff Would there be a possibility to add bicep armor to the shoulders section?

  9. Jeff Hebert says:

@Paul: I keep wussing around on that, I want to include bicep stuff but I don’t know where. Part of me wants to put it in Tops-Sleeves or something like that, and part of me wants to put it in Shoulders. I just don’t know where the most intuitive place is. I mean, for a new user wanting some nice bicep armor, where would they naturally go to look? I can’t decide, so I sit here, paralyzed. Input more than welcome.

  10. Dan Gonzalez says:

I think between glove, top or shoulder the most logical place is shoulder.

  11. Niall Mor says:

Great work so far, Jeff! I’ve been tweaking some of the characters I made with HM 2.5, and I can’t believe how much cooler they look with HM 3.0 Alpha. This thing is gonna really rock steady when it’s all done.

I suppose this really should have been included in the Insignia set rather than the shoulders, but would it be possible to include a row of ribbons such as you might see on a military officer’s dress uniform?

You could do just a single row that we could duplicate and color as much as we liked; junior officers would have only one or two rows, while really big kahunas would have ribbons all over the place, as with General P. in the photo.

  12. Jeff Hebert says:

Dang, I meant to include those in Insignia. I’ll add them in before it’s all over, make sure and hit me again next time Insignia come up.

  13. Neil Leslie says:

    Hi Jeff,

Awesome work so far! I can’t wait to see what HM 3 is gonna look like when it’s all done.

I suppose this should have gone under insignia rather than shoulders, but would it be possible to include a row of ribbons such as you might find on a military officer’s dress uniform?

You could include just a single short row that we could duplicate and color as much as we liked. Junior officers would have just a row or two, while big kahunas like General P. in the photograph could have ribbons out the wazoo. Just a thought.

  14. Niall Mor says:

    Hi Jeff,

Sorry for the double post. The first time through, something funky happened and I didn’t see it come up right away, so I re-posted.

  15. Jeff Hebert says:

No problem, anything with a link in it gets automatically shunted into the “pending approval” folder until I can get to it.

    Hey Hero Machine Creator πŸ˜€

I am a Fan from Croatia, and here i have some suggestions:

A helmet like this would be cool: http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/6530/voxt.jpg

This character called Ghost (Marvel Universe) is also really cool. The Claws are awesome.

From this site (a micro-hero site) you can get many suggestions:

  17. The Imp says:

As far as where to put bicep armor:

Instead of having ‘Shoulders’ for a category, why not change it to ‘Arms’? Then you could fold all the current shoulder stuff into that as well as bicep armor and anything else that would go on one’s arm.

Or would seeing ‘Arms’ make people think it’s a weapons category?

  18. Rj McD says:

jeff you rock on so many levels i get my shoulder cannon πŸ™‚

  19. Tim says:

I have to say all four shoulder armor pieces look awesome! Each one has its own personality. I can picture the types of characters that would fit these shoulder pieces. I’m really looking forward to the rest, Jeff!

As of right now, my only shoulder request is that spiked armor from Lordi Heromachine.

Now for the bicep armor. I would say just to combine them with shoulder armor, but obviously label them under “Bicep” under the second drop down box.

The reason I suggest this way is because they are located so close together that they could fall into the same category.

    My two cents. πŸ™‚

  20. violodion says:

@Rj McD: *Really* hope Jeff includes earplugs with the shoulder cannon. ::cough::

Increasingly looking like the (late) HM2 checkbox β€œKeep Pair Matched” is going to be needed.

  21. Niall Mor says:

Here’s something for the shoulders: shoulder braid like you might see on an officer’s uniform:

  22. the creator says:

looking good!! b.t.w. it would be cool to ad ragged or serouisly damaged shoulder pads or tops (i just noticed that the torn pants become shorter on every version of HM)
and/or having ragged shoes. For the warrior fresh out of battle look or for a ragged thief

  23. kryptkal says:

I like it! I suggets the bicep armor be in the shoulder section because it’s so close and for me, that would usualy go with and depend on the shoulder armor.

On another note. Antenna would be a good addition. Like Giant Man or the Wasp had, thin and off the forehead or sides, etc. I hope the “tuning fork” ears are coming back from hm 2.5 by the way, I liked those for variation.

  24. paul says:

    Jeff,

Maybe make a sub-category in shoulders called upper arms. Then you could add upper arm bands and the torqs that the celts wear, etc.

    Just a suggestion.

Also a little off topic are you done with the bladed weapons or are you planning more? I miss the standard pirate cutlass…arrgh! At least add a hand guard that looks like the cutlass and then I (we) can make our own.

  25. J says:

i have a suggestion for more isignias. How about a medical cross and things like a ?, !, etc.

  26. Me Myself & I says:

I added a bunch of posts to previous threads but I’m not sure if anyone goes over the old ones so I thought I should add some of the details here as well.

Here is a personal line drawing that might offer some inspiration for a hair do.

Here are some examples of what I’ve put together already with HM3. I tended to use a lot of hair combinations.

I really liked this armor from HM2 if you could consider translating it over.

Here is a belt idea for you. I like the look of it.

And then comes the war paint (or wode but that only applies to the blue color).
