The push is clearly for doing legwear next, but looking at my list it appears all but the "Socks" from HM2.5 have already been converted. Which means I need suggestions for what else you would like to see in the Legwear slot, so let 'em rip in the comments.
As usual, please edit your requests -- spamming the entire contents of a Google Image search for "Pants" is not helpful. Only request items that are a) not already in the program, b) you would really want, and c) have some sort of wide appeal.
Suggestions with links to an image of what you are wanting are the most helpful, but if text is all you have that's fine too.
And thanks in advance for your input!
I would love to see something with piping like Kick-Ass’s costume, something that breaks up the outfit a little more.
By the way Love what is coming out of HM3.

Can the existing pants be broken into crotch, thigh and shin pieces the way coat sleeves are broken out? That would give much more versatility in positioning legs the way we can position arms.
Also it would be cool (don’t know how much work it would take) to add stuff for the other leg designs (flying, walking) as most of the additions don’t fit on those.
How about some bellbottom jeans, and I know you already have ripped jeans, but how about some that go down past the knees and are only ripped up above the ankles?
Striped pirate style pants would be another nice one.
How about a nice solid pair of shorts? You can already make a nice pair by masking jeans or the ripped pants onto some of the shorter male spandex items, but then they have that skintight look.
Maybe these?

I have a few legwear ideas, all of the pictures are from hot topic. And If I may ask, are we getting any of the shoes from Heromachine 2 transfered over into HM3?

Plaid Kilt with studs and chains –

@Watson Bradshaw #3 – Not to belabor the point, but if you had a bell-bottom calf piece, you could just add two of those to the normal jeans.
@Alan Bates #4 – See? With leg wear pieces, You could have a single jeans crotch, normal thighs or ripped thighs, normal calves or ripped calves. That way you could have have the right leg ripped off mid-thigh and the left leg still in tact.
Ok, I’m belaboring the point aren’t I?
Chaps. More ideas later.
here are a few ideas.
A matching set of bracers for the thighs and shins would be good. Two images of the same style with different coloring;

I’d like to see some armored pieces that match the tops. In particular some of the high tech tops.
How bout some pants for the more muscular legs? Ye know something that really shows its a Troll in them and not just a fat man (as to me it looks right now, when I use resized “normal” pants)
My biggest request in the leg wear department would be to create matching leg wear for the fantasy armor tops you already created. I will look around and see if I can find any pics of armored leg wear that will pair up with the tops, but I am certain a lot of the original armor pics submitted for those tops were complete suits of armor if you still have them.
A skirt that flows from the diagonal hips, instead of the straight ones. I also miss the button-front long skirt from 2.5
I think we really need FantasyLegwear, because frankly, the selection for armor legwear is shit. There’s only one thing that fits in a fantasy setting, and that doesn’t fit when many of the characters you can see from HM3 are fantasy-like.
could you make all the female “Spandex Legwear” for males please? There is more verity there.
Also some Armor Leagwear to compliant the Fantasy Armor Set.
Here are a few example of armor Leg wear for you Jeff

Jeff, you made an awesome job with the fantasy armor set, there’s a lot of variety there. But in comparison, the leg armor is in need of some diversity, specially cuisess (armor for the thighs).
Here are some suggestions.
These are some cuisses:
http://www.by-the-sword.com/acatalog/aw1106.jpg
http://elads.biz/desecuis.jpg
http://elads.biz/dksc.jpg
http://elads.biz/blvipcuisst.jpg
http://elads.biz/dragcst.jpg
I don’t know these are also considered cuisses, but I’m talking about the green parts that protect the external side of the thighs and hips. (seriously, the mediaval/fantasy section is not complete without them)
http://elads.biz/drizwa.jpg
just a thought, it would be nice to see a fringed pants to go with the jacket “Inyuk-chuk”.
http://franshouseofdollsandtoys.com/doll%20clothes%20-%20pg%202/DC-136%20-%20fringe%20pants%20-%20crop.JPG
To be honest, the one thing that I want that would make me use HeroMachine much much more is every individual piece of Spartan armor from Halo so I could make my own variations of a Spartan.
For womens legwear I’d like to see some skin tight pants with four factory made holes on the outer side of each leg. I don’t know what you call these kinds of pants but I’m sure you have seen them. They are VERY sexy!
Legwear that matches each of the Tops Male Fantasy Armor and Female Armor would also be nice.
I second MLS’ comment, and also would like to see the pants from HM2.5 with the ribbing up the side, similar to the top with the ribbing on the arms and torso.
Also I would like to see more flight gear, the current pants that resemble flight suit pants are good, but not the most accurate. I would also like to see more female equivalents of the male pants, I make a lot of characters in uniform and need them to match male to female.
Preferably some generic leg armors…Really hard to make Powered Armor as it stands.
Also, I agree with the skin-tight leggings with the ribbing. They were one of my favorite clothing options in HM2.
probably some pants that could fit better with the boots, loose like the actual ones, but with tight lowers as if inside the boots, as well as some that could look loose above the boots.
I agree with Gene #9… We have a lot of very cool armour tops (both fantasy and tech) but very little in the way of matching legwear to go with them
@NEON_N64 I have tried to recreate the side/thigh armor by using the longer elfish looking armor and adding a top,but it would be great if that was a separate piece to add.
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o240/watson_kaboos/onyx.png
What Dawn (#24) said.
Some lamellar leg armor:
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/2319/dsc0128smallbb4.jpg
So basically what we’re talking about here is using the same model as the Blades and the newer Tops, where you have each general item broken into pieces. What would those pieces be?
Note that at some point you start trading off a higher total of unique complete items as you break each one down into more individual pieces, because each set can have a maximum of 90-odd items in it before I can’t work with the file any more. That’s why you have Blades and BladesTwo, because with each item broken into four pieces, essentially each set only REALY has 22 or so unique items, each broken into four pieces.
It sounds like you’re asking for a breakdown like:
At eight slots per item, you’d only have ten or eleven actual unique pieces of clothing to fill an entire set. I can to some degree compensate for that by having more sets, so Legwear-Male-Fantasy and Legwear-Male-ModernCommon and such, but after a while that list starts to get pretty crowded too.
So do you want them broken down like that, versus 90 actually unique pieces of clothing? How important is the mix-and-match ability to you compared to having more unique pieces? Is there a better breakdown of the breakdown that would be a better mix?
This is the main reason I haven’t done more Legwear up till now — I don’t know the best way to compose the sets. Plus, of course, I have to go in and redraw it all for the female body. Which is no fun at all.
for your tech leg-wear how about something like the bat-suit from the Dark Knight?
http://www.superherotimes.com/newsarchive/batman.jpg
Personally, I have always been content with just having item right and flipping an item to get a left item if needed. That would save a bunch of room but the novice users would take a while to catch up with that.
1. Complete Item
2. Upper Leg (Right)
3. Shin (Right)
4. Knee (Right)
That cuts the list in have and I think you could still get the same end product by simply flipping.
I like that way of doing it too MMI, it’s much easier on me and I think on the more novice users. Thoughts from the rest of the gallery?
Agree with Me, Myself & I (#31). I usually end up flipping things like hand, feet, shoulder after I color them to save time anyway. you could loose the whole LEFT SIDE thing if that would create more room for more items.
Hey Jeff,
here is my input, mostly agreeing with some others:
bellbottoms ( I really need these),
Boxer shorts,
Y front briefs,
surfer jams,
Agree: sectional crotch and legs (SOME sectionals, not each outfit),
Agree: fringed pants,
Agree: probably some pants that could fit better with the boots, loose like the actual ones, but with tight lowers as if inside the boots, as well as some that could look loose above the boots.
I agree with Dawn(#24), some loose pants that fit with the boots would be a really appreciated addition.
Jeff, as a final user, of course I want it all. A lot of unique items AND the ability of separating said items and make my own combinations. But if it’s not possible to have both, then I would choose the 90 unique items. Or maybe there’s some kind of middle ground? MMI’s idea sounds good. Flipping the items is a little bit of extra job. But if I want a mixed item I would be more than willing to do that bit of extra work.
@ Watson Bradshaw. Nice :). Why didn’t I think of that? Thanks for sharing. But still, we definitely need some of those by separate.
add saggy and baggy jeans with camo and or flame designs.also add like a set of zombie jeans like jeans with blood or ripped jeans with worms in the legging
I say make left and right of everything!
I am not sure if this would be possible to add but, since you are working on legwear I thought I might suggest it. Just the legs although they probably belong in body…
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e343/Siochy/Amu___Draenei_Shaman_by_Adiene.jpg
I agree with Kaldath r.e. matching armor legwear to go with the armor tops.
Also like the idea of having rights only; it’d free up more space and be less redundant.
As for my suggestion, I’d really really really like to see more spandex legwear designs (and tops too, for that matter).
If I were doing the item break down this is how i’d do it.
Complete Item.
Briefs/hips
Upper Leg ( Just one left and or can be gained using the flip tool.)
Knee ( placed in the Knee Pad section )
Lower Leg ( Placed in the foot/boot section )
not sure if it counts as legwear, but how about an ankle/thigh holster?
I think it would be a good idea to go ahead and make the complete item and have a 90+ in the set to choose from to start. Then after that the ones that people would like to see broke down into the 3 pieces could be put into a new group all together. You could have a LegWear Parts and Pieces set. As far as that goes, it would be nice to see that in every set. Also have a few pieces that would fit the other poses. Like Isia just said that it would be nice to have some to fit the military pose. Also you could get by with making some pre-posed pants, there would be no need to have the legs to fit them because they get covered anyway.
A Kilt!
Motorcycle Wheel and/or Rocket lower bodies
70’s over-the-top Pimp outfit
Zoot Suit
Also, instead of (or perhaps as well as) separating items as below: Could you give HeroMachine the ability to cut across an item wherever the user would see fit: vertically, horizontally, diagonally or any degree in between to give the user the ability to use an individual ‘slice’ of an item? (Too much code?)
Some tripp pants we need them!
I would appreciate some female leg wear, especially armor-type leg wear, which rides a little higher. Right now the female armors all end just below the waist, while the two leg wear armors ride far below the belly button. Even with the crotch pieces that give the pants a higher rise, there is still a good-sized gap. Something like these:
http://www.stylebop.com/grafic/products/117928_a.jpg
Only without the zippers and belt loops, and with a higher rise to meet with the armors, would work nicely for a practical female leather armor look.
well i would like some , baggy male shorts that look kinda torn up at the edge, and then some chain mail legging and armor, BTUs (battle tested uniforms) and some more modern military equipment, like

yes i know its a tall order, but i know you creators are capable of doing this and i am sorry for every thing non-legwear related but i didn’t know where else to post i
OK, I’ve got some legwear requests that I would like to see in the program:
– Spiky pants (for making that cool rock star-themed hero)
http://www.for20.com/spikey%20pants%20st.jpg
– Ghillie pants (although the top could also be handy):
http://www.specopstactical.com/shop/catalog/images/65125%20and%2065126%20BUSHRAG%20PANTS%20AND%20JACKET%20SET.jpg
– Racing pants:
http://www.revzilla.com/product_images/0008/0261/Fly_Racing_303_Pants_Black-Charcoal_zoom.jpg
– Samurai leg armour:
http://elads.biz/adsam1.jpg
– Heavy metal leg armour:
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_1luLRXKoJM8/SoFtg2Rxq9I/AAAAAAAAaSo/u5qSmJh7yAc/right%20leg.jpg
– Plaster leg:
http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/8125616/2/istockphoto_8125616-woman-with-a-plaster-leg-cast.jpg
@Jeff #32 – I think the best way to do it would be the same way you did the coats, with only right sleeves that can be flipped. That makes for four items per design. Similar to what MMI suggested, except I would break it out as…
1. Complete item
2. Shorts/Crotch piece (legless pants like the sleeves coat)
3. Right thigh
4. Right Calf
Then you could add a couple of 90 degree knee bends that are fairly generic, the way you did with the generic elbow bends in Coats.
Baggy Pants
http://dcsnowcluster.s3.amazonaws.com/products%2Fproduct-images%2F546010453035zoomed.jpg
I agree with #31 MMI. You should only really need the right side. I have done left and right side type things using masking but it is such a pain. If items were broken up it would look better and be so much easier.
Love all the ideas so far that people are suggesting. Since everyone is suggesting leg armor, I think this would be really cool
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a7/Cradle_of_Filth_2005.jpg
The singer on the far right with the microphone (Dani Filth). That would be awesome to have.
I’d also like to see spiked boots. By that, I mean like the boots Dimmu Borgir or Behemoth wears.
Here are some images to help out

And here’s Behemoth’s
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2107/2434480875_a4375541b1.jpg
I’ve been trying for a while to make spiked boots and they’ve all failed to work. I really really want these. Keep up the awesome work Jeff!
I agree with Me, Myself & I #34 that seems like the best way to go. I always vote for variety over versatility.
Sorry mean Me Myself & I #31
i would absolutely love to a complete military uniform and more Bullet proof vests, like this
http://www.airsoftpost.com/product_info.php?cPath=30_165&products_id=28900
and for legwear i would like to see a male version of worn out baggy shorts(past the knees)
Recognizing that we can’t have everything we want, and what makes me happy won’t make everybody happy; and that the challenges in creating the image I have in mind are part of the fun of HM; and that there’s only so much cyberspace to load up with digital body parts, my request is fairly modest: KNEES. It’s always awkward to try to pose a character running, drawing a leg back to kick, kneeling, flying, whatever, because the upper legs available don’t have complementary knees (and I won’t belabor the paucity of lower legs).
Other than that, lots of what I’d like to see are already covered by the other requestors; well done, all, and keep it up.
And I agree with the idea of losing the left sides to add options and flipping rights. Brilliant & elegant solution.
p.s. …cuz I can never quite make Kneepads work
yes, Lower leg,
and a betthigh leg for side kicks/action poses
@ Jeff #32
I think you should go that route as well. It’s a good compromise, and you could always make Legwear 2 if there were more designs. It’s easier on you to make and takes no effort for us (it’s actually easier like Watson Bradshaw #33 said), so it’s a win-win.
Sticking with right side only would also clear space in all other categories as well, like hands, feet, gloves, etc. More room for new items! 🙂
Also, I would like to see some new designs in spandex both male and female, and definitely matching sets of leg armor to the tops.
@VonMalcolm (#43) That “slice” stuff that you want is something that masking does very well already. In case you want an example take a look at this:
http://picasaweb.google.com/ricardo.m.almeida/Stuff#5338756922402662034
I did that for a character contest a while back. Using 5 copies of the same pants. 1 each for the lower legs, 1 each for the upper legs and 1 for the crotch area. What most of us want is to not have to do that amount of masking every time we want a different pose. (and to get a somewhat better knee… as you can see, the seams are apparent on the knees on my picture)
hi jeff, all i ask for is some simple karate pants loose leg ones that don’t elasticate on the ankle. And perhaps after some time a top to g with it?
Thanks
http://www.alljapankarate.com/gallery/Misc-Website/Karate_Gi
@Worf
I never did figure out what that button was for: I’ll have to play around with it some more! Nice improvised pose by the way.
@VonMalcolm: Jeff has started to post a starter tutorial made by our resident “recipe master” HammerKnight about a bunch of stuff, including masking. You can find it here:

and here:
http://www.heromachine.com/2010/08/12/heromachine-3-101-part-2/
More to come (we hope)… and don’t feel ashamed to ask questions… I didn’t get that button either the first time around
Now that we have the helmet, how about some football uniform pants, like this:
http://s7ondemand1.scene7.com/is/image/TeamExpress/777400?$248x248_DETAIL$
Maybe with a separate colored stripe down the side or some similar highlights.

Not sure if someone mentioned it, but cargo shorts for men and women would be good.

hairy pants to make wookies, although the ghillie suit pants might work
made a mistake posted same thing twice srry
I second Krimzon’s spiked boots especially the ones in this picture that Krimzon previously posted:

@VonMalcolm

On Masking: Wow: I have really been missing the boat on that one: I always wondered how people would get a half tattoo or a two thirds scar. Bring on Contest 42!
Thank you, VonMalcolm. I’ve trying for a while now to make some using different things and they all look really bad(Enlarging the spiked armband and using the spike shoulder pad from ShoulderRight, it looks really off and awkward). We can use them for all kinda of things too, arm bands, shoulder pads, etc etc. I’ve got like 30 characters that I could use them for. Would also love some leg armor like everyone is suggesting. We could really use them for our armored characters.
By the way I loved your entry in the last contest, very sinister and psycho and menacing looking. 🙂

Looks like you have a couple of suggestions for a kilt. I’d also LOVE to see a kilt included. I’d like to see a separate sporran, though, and not have it included with the kilt.
Also, what would be great, in the kilts department, would be to see a couple of different types…
You’ve got the formal kilt:
http://www.solarnavigator.net/films_movies_actors/actors_films_images/Sir_Sean_Connery_wearing_Scottish_kilt.jpg
And the great kilt:
http://www.kiltmen.com/greatkilt.jpg (note the piece going over the back/shoulder fastened with the brooch)
Might be easier on you to do the kilt, and then do the shoulder/back portion of the great kilt as a piece for the “Back Panel”…
In the fantasy kilt section, you have a war-kilt:
http://elads.biz/dkswk.jpg
And we even have a tactical kilt:
http://www.everydaynodaysoff.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/KiltTactical1.jpg
Utilikilts are also awesome…
http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t104/Spartan64/n33771703748_991014_636.jpg (note the pockets on the sides, and the snap pattern on the “apron” of the kilt)
Another Utilikilt:
http://www.guzak.com/images/utilikilt.gif
http://www.kiltednation.com/images/P/original_olive.jpg
On the Utilikilt, the things to note are that there is no plaid pattern, there are cargo-pockets on each side, and the pattern of snaps in the front so that you don’t have to use a kilt-pin and/or sporran to keep your kilt from showing the world why you’re man enough to wear a kilt. The Utilikilt has been copied and modified by multiple other companies, so I don’t believe the pattern, itself, is copyrighted.
maybe some more cargo/fatigue pants or something.
On Masking: Now I have to go back and ‘unthumb’ all my weapons and items.
How about some proper leather pants.

Is my comment awaiting moderation because it contains links, or because I’m a jerk?
@C. Baize
Yup.
🙂
Actually C. Baize (78) I find that many posts with more than one link get held up for a while. Its not just you.
Hmm, wonder why my last one did’t post.
Well I suggest Space suits:
Traditional gas counter pressure (apollo to modern)
Mechanical Pressure suits (the armored jobs and the more skin tight bio suits (male and female of course))
2001 type space suits (just for the shear awesomeness (male and female of course))
Flight Suits (male and female)

Generally WordPress automatically puts any comment with multiple links in it in a moderation queue. I don’t have any control over that, but you should get an automatic message to that effect when it happens. I check it several times a day to approve messages, since I get an email each time it happens.
Some comments, for reasons only WordPress knows, are tagged as spam and you do NOT get a message when that happens, it just looks like the comment didn’t post. Don’t know why and I can’t change it, it’s an automatic WordPress thing apparently. But, I check that queue daily as well and if it’s not, in fact, spam, I go in and approve it manually.
i would like it if there were pirate pants with torn hems and a pegleg to go with it.
I also like the leg armour idea.
I, like most people agree that we need better fantasy leg wear and I would also like to see most any items in the genre of Karas. like this: http://wallpapers.jurko.net/uploads/wallpaper_21281.jpg
and then there’s this: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2479/3934159784_30635362e1.jpg
(just some suggestions)
This image show a Chaos Marauder from Warhammer. I think all of it its great jeje but since you are looking for Legwear i thinks is a good image. I know i maybe be a little to “elaborated” (sorry for my english) but i wish it will give you some ideas

in one of the other hero creator sets there was an assortment of straps, buckles, laces, and such. If we could have that and some “boot blanks” and “shoe blanks” we could do some fun stuff.
maybe a sifi armour
What about striker units? Those could fit well into the characters’ legs.

I’d also like to see some tech leg armor. I’m working on some hi-tech ninjas right now and I got pretty much nothing for lower legs. I got the top covered, legs are fairly empty.
Also, some normal cargo pants would be nice. The military/tucked in ones are good but some normal ones would be cool.
Also would like more skirts/togas. Like the one I used on Anaal Nathrakh. The women skirts don’t work as well.
Just a few suggestions.
more pants for closed legs, and more armor pants please
Krimzon, I love the name “Anaal Nathrakh”. Does the character have a cousin named “Uthvas Bethood”? Maybe a friend named “Dochiel Dienve?” 🙂
These may have already been suggested; there are a lot of suggestions and I just skimmed them. That said, hakama would be a great addition. Here are the best pictures I could find:

They may look a bit like a skirt, but are baggy, folded pants worn for formal occasions in Japan, and for Aikido, Kendo, and other traditional martial arts.
