The List: Top 10 Marvel Superheroines

So, this poll was an interesting one. There were a lot of good inclusions, some questionable ones (whoever was trying to get all the DC superheroines on the list, you get a sarcastic round of applause for being so amusing) and some very unexpected results.

Considering that Marvel doesn't have a lot of solo superheroines in the same sort of league as those DC has (with most of the entries on the list being most famous for their work in various teams) you would expect the vote to be somewhat close, right? Well...

Honourable Mentions: Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), Emma Frost, Elektra

Character Design Challenge 197: 300! This…is…HeroMachine!

Ok folks. Through what could be a combination of black magic and new math, CDC 197 is, in fact, the 300th CDC. So it is time to pull out all the stops, and give us your best HM skills and tricks.

300

Your challenge is to create a warrior prepared for battle. It can be male, female, human, alien, mech…whatever you like, but you get one entry only.

All entries must be in by 9am on Sunday, December 4th.

Each entry will be included in a week long poll posted later that day. You will be able to vote for your favourite three entries once a day. Voting will close at 9am on Sunday, December 11th. Results will be hidden until voting closes.

The winner will receive a first class ticket to the HeroMachine Hall of Fame courtesy of Jeff Hebert himself!

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warning. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

 All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine :,ImageShackPhotoBucket, or whatever);

  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • Please name your filesas [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.

Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this).

Poll Position: Greatest Magic Users In Fiction

Ok, for this weeks poll lets take a look at magic. Specifically, who is the greatest, most memorable and/ or most influential magic user in fiction. Now, we are only looking at magic users in the sense of wizards, witches, warlocks and mages, so no gods or magicians (so people who perform magic tricks but have no magical power), and fiction can cover any of the following; Books, TV, Film and Comics/ Manga, so no real life magicians (who wouldn't count anyway because they don't have any actual magical power).

As usual, I've given you 10 examples to start with, you can add your own, but please make sure you put the series the character is from in brackets next to your submission, otherwise they won't get added to the poll.

What Were They Thinking: Now that is insane

So last week on What Were They Thinking (the series were we take a look at the stupidest most ill-advised events in comic book history), we talked a lot about DC comics. And we're going to again this week, because whilst doing my research for last weeks post, I came across the utter gem that was the "Harley Quinn Art Contest". Enjoy.

A Bit of Fun: 9 Great Cover Songs

I wanted to do something different, so today I wanna talk about cover songs. Cover songs come in all shapes and flavors, often crossing, blurring, and outright stepping over lines of genre and style. Like any other type of song, they also run the gamut from excellent to atrocious. We’re going to do the former this time around, and save the latter for another time. I’ve actually been really lucky to hear so many good covers, but I want to talk here about the best of the best, the ones that really stand out. To make this list, they had to be at least on par or better than the originals. I’m also limiting to one per band, as some artists do enough covers that they could make a list to themselves. So without further ado, let’s get to it!

The List: Top 10 Greatest Non-American Comic Book Characters

It's surprising how short of characters this poll was. Less than 20 characters to represent the 193 countries that aren't America. But I guess that's what happens when the largest publishers are all based in a single country and, as you would expect, focus primarily on characters from that country. However, we have got a list and there are some very notable names on it. So without further ado, let's get on to the list shall we.

Honourable Mentions: Captain Britain, Red Skull & Colossus

Character Design Challenge #195 – Family Portrait – Results

This was a tough challenge, but three brave souls decided to give it a try. To be quite honest, I like all of them.

sulemanmatriarchshenandh

Suleman took an existing piece and applies a sepia filter to great effect.

herrd-mcinarryfamilyarrivingforcircustryouts_zpsj6x4j1mq

HerrD created what is certainly the most creative grouping..

Kellkin has nice interaction between the characters,, and the costume details are very good.

Taking all this into account, he win this week goes to Suleman, although all three are worthy of the win.

Well done you!
