I think I like working with just flat colors better. The built in “shading” is nice sometimes, but with flat colors you can just kind of be more flexible with how you use shapes.

Tip from this work is to make use of a third-party color picker. The built-in picker annoyingly doesn’t allow you to set saturation values, and without that I would not have been able to make those dull midtones that I used for the cloak and chitin. The hex entry field doesn’t work for me so I had to enter them as RGB values.

    The picker I used: https://www.rapidtables.com/web/color/RGB_Color.html

Toughest part of this piece was the ankles, you can see I just gave up and kinda hid them. Arms were also not easy. That mask was real fun to make though; I love doing heads.

Thought I’d share how I achieved the stripe effects on my last piece; maybe it will give someone else some ideas.

A torso I made recolored to show separate parts. Heads ‘n’ torsos are my favorite parts to do, legs my least favorite.

An oooooold work of mine. Admittedly some of these are pretty basic but that tan one took some work.

    Romans… in SPAAAACE

The little tally marks on his gun were by far the hardest part of this whole design to actually make. Still not really happy with how they turned out.

**Only looking back do I realize I am the big dumb for marking this guy with Arabic instead of Roman numerals.

    Bug alien head only

I might keep working on the body but it’s already about 50 different pieces just for the head

Also this may just be a personal style thing but I usually reverse the way you have your dark and light colors

I’ve learned that when you try to do anything other than a basic A-pose there’s almost no reason to use anything in “chest” and any chest armor you want should be made piecemeal from the gloves/shoulders/neck categories. Also try masking out oversized parts (On this one I masked out part of the neck piece that was sticking out behind his shouldercloak) or using extra parts on top to cover up areas that don’t look good. The shoulder cloak and the belt pouch I added for no other reason, which you’ll discover if you look under them.

I also thought his facial expression looked way too passive for that aggressive dance pose 🙂 so I altered the eyes to make him a little more intense.

Attached is a side by side and my remake’s text file.
