The Atomic PunkParticipantReally like Mictiz’ mask and transitional wing effects! I’ve always wondered, though. What did hummingbirds do that the Aztecs associate them with war? The must be ferocious when agitated. We’re talking about a Meso-American empire that sacrificed humans cowering at some little buzz bomber!

Huitzilopochtli translates roughly from Nahuatl to: “Hummingbird of the Left” although I’m unsure of whether the association is derived from the name or vice versa.
As far as the sacrifice to what seems like a tiny little bird, Aztec deities actually had many aspects assigned to them and Huitzilopochtli was a solar deity as well as a war god. He was mostly depicted as a towering humanoid figure with a jet black face, bright hummingbird feathers everywhere, and wielding the Xiuhcoatl (which is the to say a giant snake made of fire) as his weapon. If somebody like that showed up and told you to get sacrificin’… you’d best get sacrificin’

DiCicatriz is well-versed in Aztec religion. Awesome interpretations.August 23, 2013 at 4:49 pm #30214
DiCicatrizParticipantThanks! I’ve always been fascinated by mythology and my spouse actually has some Nahua family in Mexico, hence the pre-occupation with the Meso-American deities.
NOTE: removing certain characters from my thread for personal reasons, some replies moving forward might not make the most sense. Apologies for the confusion. – DiCicatriz in 2020

JeimuzuParticipantVery cool! Love that shiny effect on her body and the faded smoke on her hands looks epic.

Poor Kid Chaos.
Your knowledge of mythology is vast!

DiCicatrizParticipantThanks! Poor Kid Chaos indeed. I don’t intend to be mean to my characters… it just always ends up that way somehow.
As for Roshana, I almost posted her without the ‘halo’, but the energy effects in the self-portrait you just posted were very inspiring
