Caption Contest #92

Ok guys, time for another caption contest, where you have to come with the funniest replacement dialogue for a random comic panel of my choosing. This week you have to replace the dialogue for this panel:

Everyone can have a maximum of 3 entries, entries must be in by next Wednesday (April 26th) and All Entries Must Be PG-13.

Character Design Challenge #318 – Classic With A Twist

Classic With A Twist challenges are fairly straightforward. Basically you are charged with taking a traditional character and introducing a new and original take on them.

Your challenge this week is to take Frankenstein’s monster and add your own original twist. Perhaps your version has a steampunk vibe, or maybe your monster is re-imagined as part human, part animal. It’s up to you, so just have fun with it. There is no limit on number of entries.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warning. Only post characters that have been created solely using Hero Machine, and that you know for certain have never been entered in a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine :,ImageShackPhotoBucket, or whatever);

  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • Please name your filesas [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.

Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this).

This contest will close on Sunday, April 23rd at 9:00am Eastern.

Trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi!

Look at this poster! Look how awesome it is!

First Thor, now Star Wars! What a week! With Star Wars Celebrations on right now, there was a rumor/hope/thought that perhaps we’d see our first footage for the upcoming Last Jedi. And we got confirmation of that this morning

What Were They Thinking?: False-(Up)Start

To kick off this weeks What Were They Thinking (the place where we look at all of the stupidest, most ill-advised things in all of comic book history) I’ve got a scenario for you guys. You are on the creative team for the X-Men at Marvel during the early 90’s and you’ve been given a remit to rejig the series, freshen it up and get rid of some old characters to make way for new, more exciting and more modern ones (read guys with lots of guns and pouches and spikes). What do you do? If your answer is create a new team that goes around killing everyone for an unknown prize, then pat yourself on the back, because you think just like a Marvel employee. And if you also said that you’d just abandon the storyline half-way through without any proper plot resolution, then you obviously know that this week we’re going to be talking about The Upstarts.

Thor Ragnarok Drops a Trailer!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8RgYZAAIzY

What a way to start a Monday!

Just super quick thoughts because we’re actually heading out of town right away so I don’t have time for the usual dissection. You can definitely see there’s a change of tone here, although there’s certainly some darker parts. Loving the music choice, personally, and the throwback-style font that’s all Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon-y. There’s some humor, some really epic stuff, and some really dark stuff all thrown together. And Jeff Goldblum! Who else is loving that, because I sure am! I’m one of the few who really like the Thor movies, so I am ready to see where this goes.

Character Design Challenge #316 – Strike A Pose – Results!

Hey ‘machiners!

First, thanks for letting me judge this week’s CDC.  It was my suggestion to have a contest on action poses to challenge you on focusing on the foundation of your pics.  I read a couple of statements on that it was more of a challenge than first thought.  Hopefully we can revisit this subject in future CDC’s with a pose theme like dance or maybe even martial arts.  Hmmmmmm…..

Some interesting entries this week with a wide variety of poses.  Now as I’m looking for the strongest pose that was entered, I am looking at anatomy, completion of body, centered weight of form and just does it makes sense what is going on without a description.  Applying all that, I have come up with my finalist….

Superman punch by kellkin

Great fluid pose that grabbed me right away.  Anatomy can be tightened up with size of hands and head adjustment, but the weight of form shows the subject going for the knock out punch to finish the fight.

Congrats kellkin!!

Keep on ‘machining, everyone!

Cheers!
