Creators Club 2014

Hey guys, JR here. I don't know if you guys remember but last year and in 2011 (don't know what happened to 2012) Hammerknight and Atomic Punk did Heromachine Creators Club posters, which you can check out here- http://www.heromachine.com/2011/06/02/2011-heromachine-creators-club-wanted-poster/Ā (2011) and here-Ā http://www.heromachine.com/2013/05/02/creators-club-poster-2013/Ā (2013). Now, it would be nice if this became an annual thing, so I'm going to be doing it this year.

Now, the theme for this year is MiB ('Machiners in Black). Now Marx has recently provided everyone with a fine selection of suits, so there can be no excuses for sloppy dressing. Just make a self portrait (either realistic or idealised, it doesn't matter) of yourself in a black suit (sunglasses and other accessories optional) or a black dress if you're female and don't want to be wearing a suit. You don't have to do anything fancy, basic forward facing pose without any zypping will do fine, but I must insist on no backgrounds. When you are finished email your entry to me as a PNG transparent file WITH A TEXT FILE (preferably as a word document, don't paste the text into the email) so I can resize characters for consistency. Send your entries to me atĀ jr19759@hotmail.co.uk. Please make sure you title the email something applicable like Creators Club or Machiners In Black, because if I get a (No Subject) email from an email address I don't recognise, it's going straight into my spam folder and you won't get to be on the poster.

Only one entry per person and please try to limit the number of revisions you do, because it's more than likely I'll just use the first one you send me.Ā Please name your file as [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you e-mail it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his ā€œBayou Belleā€ character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png. He would save the Text as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.txt.

I will be accepting submissions from today through to Feb 5th and I'll reveal the final poster sometime in February. This event is open to everyone in the community, you don't have to be especially prolific or be a power user or anything, just being a part of the heromachine community is enough.

And finally, remember this is not a contest, it's just a bit of fun to showcase the community and its members, so have fun with it.

Character Design Contest ♯55- Old School: Speedster

Ok guys, this week I want you to create a speedster character. It can be hero, villain, modern or golden age. The only proviso I have is that they must be shown using their power.

As per usual, no limits on entries this week, the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). Please read the rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

The Big Question ♯23

Now, some of you may remember back in the summer, I ran this series called "The Big Question" here on the blog, where I'd give you guys a topic, give my thoughts on it and then let you guys discuss it. It got dropped by the wayside because I ran out of topics that really interested me, but recently I've been going back through them and something sparked my interest. It was one of the earliest BQ's, on the topic of why Batman is so popular. Some of the answers I got were very thought provoking, so I started wondering, what about other characters. So that's what we're going to be doing over the next few weeks. Discussing the reasons for the popularity of two of the greatest and most popular superheroes in existence. Starting with this guy.

Character Design Contest ♯54- Old School: Flying

Okay, lets get this thing back up and running after the Christmas break.

So, what I want you guys to do this week is create an old school style flying hero. Capes are optional, as are wings, but I'd like to keep this gadget-less please, no Iron Man style armour suits or such-like. You'll find out why in a couple of weeks.

As per usual, no limits on entries this week, the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). Please read the rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Doctor Who: The Time Of The Doctor- A review and some thoughts

Ooooooooookaaaaaaaay. Hope everyone survived their Christmas dinner and is ok for my ramblings. And considering the fact that this is both a "special" and Matt Smith's last Doctor Who episode, you can expect a lot of rambling, plus I've got a lot to get off my chest about this one. So please, let us begin. Warning, will contain spoilers. And nuts, a lot of nuts.

Character Design Contest ♯53 (Snow Joke) Winner

Well, I've got to kick off by saying, wow, that was a lot of votes. Second highest for one of my blog contests I believe, and two creations seemed to run off with the vote from the start. However, there can only be one winner and, with a very seasonal style, the winner this week is JeimuzuĀ for hisĀ Father Frost. Congrats Jeimuzu and thanks to everyone who entered. Remember, voting for the COTY is still open until Christmas Eve, so keep voting, it's really close at the moment so don't let your favourite down. Anyway, see you guys on Christmas Eve.
