Character Building Delayed

Sorry about this guys. I haven't actually had a chance to record it yet. Usually I'd try to get the episode recorded on Sunday when I'm not doing anything and then I'd edit it all together and pre-post it on Monday, ready for Tuesday. But this Sunday my family were putting up our Christmas decorations, so I was busy for most of the day and when I wasn't it was still too noisy for me to record my audio decently because Xmas decorating round my house makes a loooooooooot of mess. Then yesterday I was at work and when I got back I had other things to sort out, what with it being my Mums birthday tomorrow. So yeah, long story short, I'm going to record the episode when I get back tonight (when this is posted I'll be at work) and depending on what else happens today, I'll try to get it edited and uploaded for you today, but it will be up much later than usual, afternoon sometime. But it might end up being delayed until tomorrow. Sorry 'bout that.

So, we did snowmen last week,what festive fun are we having this week? Well, if the title didn't give it away, I might as well say now. This week your task is to find a nice Christmas tree and decorate it. Presents are compulsory (what sort of Christmas tree would it be without presents), but I don't mind how you decorate it otherwise, you can go fairy lights, baubles, tinsel (joke: what do you get if you eat Christmas decorations? Tinsel-itus………….. anyway) and you can have either a star or a fairy on top. Just make it look good. Make it look like the sort of thing you would put up in your house for the festive season.

As per usual, no limits on entries this week and the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). The winner gets to claim a custom made item from dblade to be put into heromachine, so long as the item conforms to his prize rules, which you can find here: http://www.heromachine.com/forum/the-heromachine-art-gallery/dblades-whiz-bang-item-dispenser/. Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Character Of The Year- 2014

Ok guys, as with last year, it's time for our Character Of The Year contest. The idea is very simple, I take all of the CDC winners from throughout the year and put them into a number of polls. Who goes in which polls is decided using a Random Name Selector, so I have not control over who goes where. The winners of these polls after a weeks worth of voting then get put into a final poll that will run from next Sunday until Christmas Eve, where the winner will be announced and put into the Hall Of Fame (I am aware that two of these CDC winners have already been entered into the Hall Of Fame, so obviously if they win they won't get entered again, we'll just go with who ever gets second place).

Anyway, without further ado, lets get started.

That's right, singular this week. We actually had an outright winner this time…. I know, amazing isn't it. Two people did run away with this poll from the start, between them accumulating 70% of the votes between them. But our winner was always in a clear lead and it was obvious who was going to win from when the votes started coming in. And I'm ok with that, because it gives me a chance to say something that hasn't been said in a couple of years. And isn't it ironic that, to round of the triumvirate of version challenges, the person who wins the HM3 challenge is none other than Zyp, for his redesign of Melmo44's Phaeya. congratulations Zyp, please speak to dblade about your prize, and well done to everyone else who entered, not just this challenge but all three of the version challenges, it's been great fun.

Character Of The Week: Candruth- Alien Woman Portrait

It's funny, I always try to feature different people for CotW, just so I'm not repeating myself. However, I'm spectacularly bad at it, as I'm sure those of you who remember the original run will know. But it seems there is one person who I just can't stop featuring, as this will be their 3rd or 4th time getting CotW.

Ok, I will say straight off, this isn't as good as the last of Candruths works we featured on CotW, but that one was a masterpiece. But I have to feature it, simply for the same exact reason I always feature Candruths art, the flipping' attention to detail on the shading and highlighting. If I could just draw your attention to the wrinkles around the nose and the mouth. Look at that lighting, really properly look. You have the base purple skin colour, then you have a slightly lighter violet colour, then that cream colour for highlights. Add the black shadow shading and then you have another purple to accentuate the contrast in colour (though this could be a mixture of the lighter purple and the black, but it looks to me like another colour). Most people just have base colour, highlight colour, shade colour, done. But obviously not Candruth. And then you have those eyes. Not only are they superbly creepy, but they also seem to have at least 5 different colours in there for shading and highlighting (green, cream, pink, very light purple, white and a darker purple) added onto the base colours. Honestly, Candruth does more shading on her characters eyes than I do on my whole characters. And that's saying something. And just when I think I can stop going on about the shading, I see the neck. And the shadows on the hood, making it melt seamlessly into the background. God, so good.

Oh, and does anyone else think Star Wars when they see this picture, or is it just me?

So, I'm gonna try something different this week. I can't think of any decent questions for the Big Question, so instead I'm going to bring one of my old forum topics over to replace it (ironic really, as the Big Question started out as a forum topic as well).

As I say in the video, I will probably be going back to the costume and having a mess around with it, because I'm not entirely happy with it and the video would be an hour long if I recorded until I was happy with it. If I have any interesting ideas that I think could make good content for a video, I'll include them at the start of next weeks video.
