CDC #421 – Team Building – Volume 2 – Part 9

The premise of this contest is that over the next number of weeks we will build a team of superheroes and a team of villains. Each week I will supply you with a role, name, or list of powers of one of the team members and you will use HM3 to create the character. The winner each week will win a version of their character created on HM by yours truly.

Your challenge this week is to design the hero team’s warrior Achillia.

Real Name: Nancy George

Age: 35

Hometown: Utica, New York

Profession: Bladesmith / Ancient Historian

Achillia is the reincarnation of one of Ancient Rome’s famed Gladiatrix (female gladiators) She relies on intense physical training and her arsenal of homemade weapons as she has no actual superpowers.

Please follow the instructions below regarding the naming of entries.

I posted before this with the wrong file, please delete that entry…

Here she is after one of her more ‘vigorous’ workouts.

  2. Palazzo says:

Here is my rendering of Achillia in her weapons room. She is wielding a gladius, her preferred weapon.

Here is my version of Achillia, holding her primary sword and shield. The shield design is based on an ancient Roman design.

  4. D says:

I’m not sure about her hero name. Achilles was Greek, not Roman, so you might like to consider renaming her. Besides, isn’t she supposed to be an ancient historian who should know about these things?

There was a gladiatrix who fought under the stage name Achillia.

“As male gladiators were usually pitted against fighters of similar skill and capacity, the same probably applied to female gladiators.[13] A commemorative relief from Halicarnassus shows two near-identical gladiators facing each other. One is identified as Amazon and the other as Achillia; their warlike “stage names” allude to the mythical tribe of warrior-women, and the warrior-hero Achilles. Each is bareheaded, equipped with a greave, loincloth, belt, rectangular shield, dagger and manica (arm protection). Two rounded objects at their feet probably represent their discarded helmets.[14] An inscription describes their match as missio, meaning that they were released;[15] the relief, and its inscription, might indicate that they fought to an honourable “standing tie” as equals.[16]”

Thanks for telling me. I didn’t know that and I stand corrected.

    Nancy George aka Achillia

I decided to portray her in her modern-day guise, as opposed to a warrior like the other entries. Here she is surrounded by weapons she has made and some of the trophies from her previous life.
