CDC #373 – Team Building – Part 13

The premise of this contest is that over the next number of weeks we will build a team of superheroes and a team of villains. Each week I will supply you with a role, name, or list of powers of one of the team members and you will use HM3 to create the character. The winner each week will win a version of their character created on HM by yours truly

Your challenge this week is to design and name the 7th and final member of the hero squad. The only guidance I will give you is that she is recognized as the most powerful group member, and has ties to ancient mythology. The rest is up to your creativity and imagination. As a reminder the other squad members are Ages, Bluejay, Magus, Stormwing, Veloz and Uriah. Be sure to check out the costume colours of the past winners before deciding on the colours for your entry.

Please follow the instructions below regarding the naming of entries.

  1. Brons says:

Angelique Sahnoun, known to the world as Atomique was born Aelina Sophia Sahnoun in Algeria in 1934. Educated in Paris and the United States, she was a brilliant nuclear physicist, and part of the early French nuclear weapons development team until the site of the first atmospheric testing was scheduled not far from the place where she was born. While trying to prevent one test, she was killed—atomized—by the blast.

Several years later, people began reporting sightings of a glowing female figure in the desert. Variously reported as a ghost, efrit, and demon, these reports continued for months stretching to years.

Eventually, Dr. Gilbert d’Aubigne, a French colleague of the late Dr. Sahnoun investigated and discovered that it was, in fact, Angelique. He devised equipment that allowed him to communicate with her, and eventually they created a belt that she could use to stabilize her form, a portable headset that allowed her to communicate with the outside world, and a unitard-like garment that could withstand contact with her body, and contain the most lethal emanations from it.

With practice, she learned to be fully materialized in something resembling her original human form. In this new form she could fly, was practically invulnerable and could emit beams, blasts and balls of energy. She took the name Atomique and the role of a superhero. In one of her first big battles, however, she learned that overtaxing her energy reserves could deplete her ability to materialize, and so she has disappeared, often for years at a time, after major exertions. Still, she may be the most powerful being on earth.

[Note: Atomique is a fleshing out of a character that I started creating many months ago as a Captain Atom/Dr. Manhattan (and Solar, Nukla, etc.) equivalent for my world. She was eventually supplanted in my analog for the Watchmen by Super★Star, and has been needing a new team, so I decided to make use of her here.]

Oh, pooh! I got wrapped up enough in revising the figure that when I came to writing her story I lost track of my plan. The line about “variously reported as a ghost, efrit, and demon, these reports continued for months stretching to years,” is all that was left of said plan by the time actually I did the write-up. There was _supposed_ to be whole bit in there about her ghostly form being taken to be a fulfillment of ancient prophecies related to the pre-Islamic Berber cult of the dead, which I was supposed to further research for details, before I got done in by my short attention span.

Jumped the gun. Corrected write-up to follow.

  4. Brons says:

[Note: I clearly rushed to enter my story above, and lost track of why I had shifted Atomique’s origin to the Maghreb, and her ethnicity to Berber, and changed her birth name. Sigh. So, here’s rev. 2 in keeping with that side-tracked plan and with the requirements of this week’s assignment. There’s a reason why I don’t usually rush these things. Sorry.]

Angelique Sahnoun, known to the world as Atomique was born Aelina Sophia Sahnoun in Algeria in 1934. Educated in Paris and the United States, she was a brilliant nuclear physicist, and part of the early French nuclear weapons development team until the site of their first atmospheric testing was scheduled not far from the place where she was born in the desert of Algeria. While trying to prevent one test, she was killed—atomized—by the blast.

Several years later, people began reporting sightings of a glowing female figure in the desert. Variously reported as a ghost, ifrit, and demon, these reports continued for months stretching to years. To the devout Muslims of the area, her naked, flame-like, female form was clear evidence of her demonic origins.

But, among the more traditionalist Berber folk, she was seen as the prophesied incarnation of a goddess that they had been expecting to fulfill legends that went back hundreds, even thousands of years, a goddess of the wind, and fire, coming out of the desert. To them, she was a spirit of that desert, who periodically reincarnated as a warrior, a queen, and divine embodiment of power, in accordance with prophecies and traditions kept alive by the tattooed wise women, in tales whispered in secret.

In fact, it was her familiarity with these myths, and the sacred connections between them and the place chosen for the test that had caused Angelique to be so opposed to the tests, and to take the risks that had resulted in her demise.

Eventually, Dr. Gilbert d’Aubigne, a French colleague of the late Dr. Sahnoun, who recognized the ties between things she had said before accident and the reports of the fiery manifestations in the desert, investigated and discovered that the figure was, in fact, Angelique.

In one of her first big battles, however, she learned that overtaxing her energy reserves could deplete her ability to materialize, and so she has disappeared, often for years at a time, after major exertions, only to reform in the desert. Still, she may be the most powerful being on earth.

And the wise women of the Maghreb are only more convinced that Aelina, whose name means “angel”, is, in fact the fiery angel, the goddess of fire, wind and the desert wilds, manifest once more. Angelique, herself, can offer no other theory of how after being destroyed in the nuclear fire, she has managed to return. The scientist in her is sure that there is a rational explanation, but the tales of the wise women haunt her. How do you survive a nuclear bomb?

    Anath

This ancient Canaanite goddess of love and war is definitely someone you want on your side. Sister of the storm god Ba’al, the virgin warrior Anath was famed for her ferocity in battle. An ancient Ugaritic text describes Anat’s revenge against a man who slighted her in no uncertain terms: “Anat seized Mot, the divine son,/ With a sickle she cut him,/ with a winnow she winnows him,/ with fire she scorches him,/ with a mill she crushes him,/ she scatters his flesh in the field to be eaten by birds.”

This is Jean Holder Aka – Athena

Jean is the latest incarnation of the Greek goddess Athena she gained her powers at the age of 11 when her predecessor passed but she didn’t discovered her powers until a year later when her house was set on fire. Jean was the sole survivor having no burns or wounds even though her whole bedroom where she was asleep that night was completely burned down.

some powers she has discovered –
invulnerability, Unmatched Super Strength, ancient Knowledge and wisdom, she has also show the ability to heal others in rare times and can wield ancient Greek weapons from the gods but they have been lost for thousands of years
As Jean is only young she hasn’t reached nearly 50 percent of her power yet but is still considered to be one one of the most powerful humans on earth

I like to think of Athena as the youngest member of the group if my version won but i am not sure how that will fit in with everyone else already in the group, i think of her as the always upbeat and never down character of the team you never see her get extremely mad but she is also the most powerful without knowing or using her full potential yet but some evil people around her will know of the power she posses and try to gain control over her as she could cause global devastation.

Side Note : first off i cant believe iv missed most of this competition its probably one of my favourites that has ever been on here i think we should all collaborate an make our own universe !
Also sorry if Athena is to Obvious of a choice i could only find a couple of goddesses of war and power the rest where things like love and grain yay ! (wasn’t to sure if we could make our own mythology if so i probably would of done that)
Costume note – i was originally going to give her a Greek old time theme costume but when looking at the rest of the team it has a modern feel to it so i went with this design

Love it, but I struggle with it as a Character Design what with not being able to see the front and bottom half of the costume. But as a piece of art, I am all in, and it probably belongs in the Hall of Fame.

Solaris The Sun Hero. Awakening from a coma with no memory of her past “Jane Doe” soon found she was able to produce fire from her body. Terrified of her ability she sought out heroes for help as they deal with these sort of things daily. She finds Ages and he agrees to try and help her learn how to control her powers, but on the condition that she considers joining his hero team. She agrees knowing at least she cant hurt the heroes with her uncontrolled powers and since she has no where else to go….

Ages puts her in the care of the heroes Magus and Stormwing as her powers seem to relate more so to theirs. Throughout training she learns minimal control over the fire, but under any stressful situation such as sparing matches with Stormwing she looses control and unleashes massive amounts of power flames that engulf the training arena. Magnus barley is able to contain it before the flames return to Jane seeming residing in her.

Magnus figures until she knows who she was she can never figure out who she is now. And its that mental block that is holding her back. Upon mediation Magnus breaks through and is shocked to find inside Jane’s mind, insider her very soul resides the spirits of others.

They weren’t just any others mind you, they were infact the spirits of past mythological gods. All of which are gods of the sun/fire Xihe, Doumu, Ra, Apollo, Agni, Suya, Amaterasu, Baldur. Somehow these gods spirits found themselves inside this poor woman’s soul. Tho once Magnus entered these sleeping spirits awoke from their slumber, kicked Magnus out and spoke through Jane.

They announced during each of their demises they created a magical plane outside of this world and found one another, the only way to return was to find a worthy vessel to share their powers with and allow them to see their home once again.

After some time Jane, now able to communicate with the Gods insider her has found her purpose and her resolve to find a way to free them from their self imposed prison and use her powers for good. She takes on the mantel of SOLARIS and is ready to be a hero.

–She has two forms, her standard form where she can generate fire power and her FULL GOD MODE, where she takes the powers from each of the gods insider her all at once and merges with them.

I hope this goes through. This is my first time doing this.

Her name is Amy Tirasu, and she is of Japanese-Italian-American descent. Incidentally, she is also a descendant of the ancient lineage of Japanese Kami, specifically (surprise, surprise) Amaterasu, the spirit of the Sun. In addition to the powers of a solar deity and an affinity for wolves (she can transform into one such Okami), she also has access to the powers of the Three Royal Regalia, consisting of the Sword of Valor, the Talisman of Benevolence, and the Mirror of Truth. She joins our six heroes seeking to hone her skills in preparation for her destiny: to fulfill her ancestor’s ancient task of upholding balance and harmony on Earth.

  13. Calvary_Red says:

At a glance, Tanaka Hikari appeared to have a fairly normal life. She grew up in America after moving from Japan with her mother. Few people knew that her mother was a former Japanese princess. Her father had been a body guard for the emperor, as a commoner Hikari’s mother had been required to give up her title and position to marry him. The family enjoyed a comfortable life together until a massive assassination attempt on Hikari’s uncle, the crown prince, during his coronation. Numerous assailants emerged from the crowd, and many imperial body guards were killed in action, including Hikari’s father. In the chaos nobody noticed a small group quietly take out the guards posted at the Imperial Regalia and make off with the three sacred treasures of Japan. Under the smokescreen of the attempt on the Ascendant Emporor’s life, these masterminds of the attack would have gotten away, but the frighted Hikari, trying to get to her father, stumbled into their path. Her sudden intrusion caused one of the thieves to almost drop the Yata Mirror and while he caught it, the Mirror slipped out from under its shroud just long enough for little Hikari to glimpse her reflection in it. Though her mother had given up her place in the Imperial Family, their blood still flowed through Hikari’s veins. And with it the blood of their ancestor Amaterasu. Divine blood is not as easily diluted as people may believe. That brief glimpse in the mirror awakened the full power of Amaterasu within her mortal descendant. Hikari – confused and terrified – screamed, unleashing a burst of power that brought the criminals to their knees.
But all the general public heard about was the failed assassination attempt and the Coronation of the new emperor shortly after. The Japanese government could not allow people to know how close the villains had come to stealing the three sacred treasures. So the theft was covered up, as was Hikari’s role in stopping it, which was not understood anyway. While her uncle ensured they were well provided for, Hikari and her mother were sent to America to prevent the possibility of people learning what the young girl had witnessed. While the details were all fuzzy, Hikari never forgot that she lost her father and was scared, and she knew she never wanted anyone else to have to feel like that, so as she grew older she and began to learn about the powers she had gained, she dedicated herself to fighting crime as the new Amaterasu. This ultimately lead to her joining forces with Ages and his team. Hikari tends to find herself falling back on abilities similar to Ages own: flight, solar energy blasts, and the ability to increase her strength exponentially, though her research into Japanese mythology has lead her to believe she may have powers she hasn’t even imagined yet. She’s also able to emit an energy field that revitalizes those around her. Her one major weakness is her focus. Just as the original Amaterasu was overpowered when she was distracted by the Yata Mirror, Hikari’s abilities become much weaker if she losses concentration, but at her best, her new comrades believe she can do anything she puts her mind to.
