CDC #367 – Team Building – Part 7

The premise of this contest is that over the next number of weeks we will build a team of superheroes and a team of villains. Each week I will supply you with a role, name, or list of powers of one of the team members and you will use HM3 to create the character. The winner each week will win a version of their character created on HM by yours truly.

Your challenge this week is to design the young hero Stormwing. He carries a genetic mutation that allows him to grow wings at will; wings that can produce lightning, seismic shocks, rain, ice, snow, wind as well as periods of total darkness. First recruited by Ages at 16 years old, Stormwing’s greatest challenge was learning to react out of duty, rather than out of rage.

Please follow the instructions below regarding the naming of entries.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. Please keep all submissions PG13: full or partial nudity is prohibited. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warning. Only post characters that have been created solely using Hero Machine, and that you know for certain have never been entered in a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine :,ImageShack, Deviant Art or whatever);Do not use Photobucket.

  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • No copyrighted characters please – they will be deleted.
  • Please name your filesas [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.

Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this).

This contest will close at 9am Eastern on Sunday, June 17th.

Here’s my entry. Not-so-short story in the description.

My take on him is probably going to be different. I wanted to give him a more humanoid or “extended bodypart” like wings. So something with the skin on it and structure to give it a more attached feeling. I took his rage and anger coming from having a bizarre powers and having a mutation that gave him an external human structure being wings, so I made the wings batlike. He gets angry because they are ugly and he feels like a freak. I didn’t want to add angelic like wings because I didn’t want him to have something beautiful, but something ugly that makes him unique…and something ugly that can produce beautiful elements of power. His internal struggle is finding peace in his “mutation” and using it to be a powerful image for good, rather than be upset with his, or what he calls, an ugly disfigurement.
I plan on making a costumed version if this generic clothed version isn’t accepted. I figured he hasn’t become a hero quite yet. He is still struggling with his identity.

@Ubiquitous Pixel – Why would it not be accepted?

I don’t know, thought maybe they’d have to look costumed or hero ready since he has a hero name already. But happy to hear my creation is okay haha

While all these pictures have been awesome, I suspect You will be the winner RobM. Your portrait made me say “Holy Cr@p!” out loud (annoying my wife to no end).

It is only Tuesday Sean. A bit early to declare a winner.

That’s very nice of you to say, Sean, but Djuby has a point. You never know what kind of awesome somebody’s working on.

    True, true. Still, Wow!

  11. Brons says:

The notion of a powerful character who had a problem controlling his rage made me think of an adolescent, and so, my version is a little younger: a strange visitor from another dimension, with powers and abilities beyond those of normal men, he came through a portal in Texas, expecting to be treated, as his ancestors from whom he had inherited his powers had, as an incarnation of the Thunderbird, with awe and respect. It didn’t work out quite that way, but the heroes did befriend him, and he does try to live up to their standards, but…

Let’s just say that you’re currently in the lead… but we’ve got a lot of talent, here, so that might not last. VERY good picture, though…

Here’s my take on the character. As you can see, I’m very much a fan of Silver Age comics

My version of Stormwing takes a slight different viewpoint. After enjoying the freedom of youth and flight, our hero let his moxie get the best of him and was struck down during a thunderstorm. His wings fried, and his body crippled, our hero finds himself consumed will rage and determination. The storm seems to have embedded itself it his body, giving him control over electricity, but it explodes out of him if not regulated. Our hero dedicates himself to being able to not only walk, but fly, again, and works tirelessly creating himself an exo suit that will allow him to do so. He also invented a sort of lightning saber that allows him to siphon off some of the storm inside of himself into a blade of pure electricity.

Nice pic! Another one that defies the usual positioning to play with perspective!
