The Secret Lair
Well, at least now Heaven has someone to stop Cesar Romero from putting exploding whoopie-cushions on Gods chair and to prevent Burgess Meredith from pilfering all of the umbrellas.
See ya round Bats, you’re off to the great Batcave in the sky.
p.s. I really hope they play the theme tune at his funeral or at least the transitional music.
While I missed his lecture, when he came to Austin in 2010 to promote his autobiography, I *did* get to see the 60’s Batmobile up close . . . and even touch it. I still have the picture on my FB page.
R.I.P to the first man to wear the cape and cowl he was a good batman and a better human.
We shall all miss him.
I still have memories of watching classic batman about 10 years ago. Me and my brother would come up with superheroes/villains afterwards. I think I invented one that was somehow more than two halves various creatures. 5-year-old me wasn’t as good at maths as I am now.
Adam West is famous for his cheerful disposition and “fan’s first” ethic. Some would refer to him as “The Bright Knight.” Anyone could have played Batman in the 1960s but Adam West’s “serious” delivery against a cartoon backdrop made it a hit. The show was so awful and campy that you had to watch even if you hated it.
What they did to Batman might have been unintentionally genius. They took the dark, gritty tale of a man obsessed with vengeance and flipped it on its head. The hip Bright Knight with his over-the-top trademark gadgets for every contingency might have been for the technicolor laid back flower children but many who were already fans enjoyed it even more.
RIP Mr. West
Rest in peace, old chum….
One of the tent pegs of the old camp gone forever. [sigh]
