I've had half a dozen reports in the last few days of not being able to export images, has anyone here seen that? It works fine when I test it but these folks are telling me they get the popup window, only they never get the image.
Thanks for any feedback you can provide.
I’ve just tried a bunch of combinations of sizes and formats and it seems to be loading “something”(i.e. chrome puts a percentage loaded counter at the bottom of the page), but no image comes up. So yeah, it seems to be broken for now. Guess screen capture is back into play for now.
I don’t use HeroMachine to save/export images. I go to widescreen, right click, and choose print. Then I save it as a pdf and copy the image in the pdf and paste it into a png file. More work, but I find my taller images are treated better this way than through the export option.
The only problem is that when I don’t pay attention to where I’m right-clicking, I end up saving an image of the HeroMachine website instead of the widescreen field, and when I cancel the operation it refreshes Heromachine, losing me any work I hadn’t saved up to that point.
Example: I had a Techno-Organic character that I was working on for Opposites Attract that had a squid coming out of the barrel of its arm blaster and a giant venus flytrap, an alien worm, and an insect leg coming out of holes in its chestplate, decent shading, and a bunch of time consuming, cool stuff in it that used over 240 layers. When I went to save the image, I made this mistake and lost more than half my work on it.
If you could work on a fix for that, it would be great, but until then I’ll say what every programmer and artist out there has told me (lotta good it did): save your work often.
My default browser is Chrome and that is indeed now an issue.
-Hit export.
-Pop up tab appears
-Percentage loading dialog loads up to 100 at the bottom
-Nothing happens
I’ve just been using the text to open my saves in Safari. Works fine there.
Yes, I use Chrome and export opens a new tab without saving a file. Plus, it seems that the Chrome window has re-sized as HM3 no longer “fits” without having to scroll.
One thing I don’t like about Chrome is it automatically updates and/or tweaks itself without telling you.
After reading DiCicatriz’s post, I tried it in Firefox and IE and it works fine on both. It appears it’s a Google Chrome issue.
Thanks for the input, all. It’s weird because I use Chrome and it’s working fine. Worf, I’m on Chrome 28.0.1500.95, can you go to File – About Chrome and let me know which one you’re using?
Thanks! It does tell me I need to update still, so maybe if you’re on the updated version and I’m not yet, that’s the issue.
Dang, that’s it — I exported an image fine, updated Chrome to 29.0.1547.57, and now it won’t export, I just get the blank tab but the script doesn’t return the image.
Effing Google! Whatever happened to “Do no evil”?!
I’ve been using GChrome as a sub for Firefox because of update problems–it seems every browser I’ve looked at recently wants more updates than necessary. I’ve had intermittent problems exporting with both, and have been screen capturing for awhile now.
It makes me think browser programmers are trying to avoid layoff.
Oh–and the ‘do no evil?’ That is only common for communities like ours who do their best to ‘speak no evil’ of each other and manage to ‘muse’ and collaborate often.
I know. Leading by example can be disappointing at times.
Yeah I’ve been having issues with this too. I thought it was just me.
I just tried exporting one of my just-finished characters, and, just like everyone else, I got the pop-up tab, but nothing loaded. I normally use Google Chrome because it does things better than IE, but this is the first time I actually ran into a problem with it.
Same thing. Chrome, no export 🙁
Boogle! I use internet explorer and safari and have no issues, well not with heromachine at least LOL
