Share Day #H9

For today's share day let's talk fantasy creatures. What is your top five fantasy creatures? Do you have any that you down and out hate? My top five are almost equal in ranking, Dragons, Unicorns, Centaurs, Minotaurs, and Winged Horses. (I would have said Mermaid but to me they are more of a fantasy race then they are creature.) To set here and think about it there are not any that I would say that I hate. I guest I really like them all. So let's hear from you.

My new rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line with “no” warnings.

Putting something in quotes means you are quoting someone, not emphasizing it. Perhaps putting it in bold type or italics would get your point across and actually seem authoritative.

I am referring to the “no” in your disclaimer up there. Right now it seems like you are being sarcastic.

  3. 1. The Wolpertinger… I just like how the word sounds. Also, they remind me of the evil rabbit in Monty Python’s The Holy Grail.

    2. The Kraken… my favorite poem by my favorite poet Alfred Lord Tennyson.

    3. Thunderbirds because they bring rain and storms.

    4. The elusive “You are my best friend and I think that we are equals who respect each other’s personal space so I won’t wake you up at 4 o’clock in the morning when I want petted” cat.

    5. A fantasy animal that I hate would be the Tuan Tuan (because they smell worse on the inside than they do on the outside).

I have a liking and fascination for all kinds of fantasy/mythical creatures, but if I had to choose I think it’d have to be these. In no particular order:

    1. Long (Chinese Dragon), ’cause they’re just awesome.

    2. Western Dragon, also ’cause they’re just awesome.

    3. Unicorns, because they’re Scottish.

    4. Griffins. Lions are cool, eagles are too, put ’em together and you get awesomesauce.

    5. Chimeras. The more animals the merrier!

I don’t think I hate any particular creature. I do however hate it when they are represented in what I would take to be a stupid way (i.e. disgustingly cute, and the like).

I suspect my favorites might not completely qualify – they’re more ‘legendary’ than ‘fantasy’. Still, here goes.

    1) Hydra – if only for the constant regrowing.

    2) Kraken – on the grounds that a sea monster capable of disguising itself as an island is a pretty neat thing.

    3) Unicorns, the originals – y’know, before the whole ‘can be safely approached by a virgin’ bit was added into the legend.

    4) Karkadann, on similar grounds. (Arabian unicorn variant – according to one version of the legend, their most common cause of death appears to be elephants. The Karkadann is vicious enough that it’ll supposedly spear anything that enters its territory, then walk around with its head held high to show off its ‘prize’. Imagine what happens when a speared elephant finally slips off the horn.)

    5) Another variant of the unicorn them, the Kai Tsi (Lion Unicorn). Imagine a creature which takes the best parts of the unicorn, the best parts of the lion, mixes them together, then adds the ability to determine the guilt or innocence of a man and a nature which will not permit the guilty to live.

I have always liked the firelizards of Anne McCaffrey’s books. They were very living, interesting little creatures that sounded like something you’d want as a pet.

  7. Max Grant says:

I like the Dementors from Harry Potter, they are the emos of the mythical world.

Going with Fantasy Creature from Fantasy books:

Companions ( Magical Psionic Horses from the Herald of Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey )

Kyree ( Kinda like a cross between a wolf and a large cat, also intelligent and Psionic, also from Mercedes Lackeys Valdemar world )

    General Fantasy Creatures
    Dragons,

    Gryphons

    Manticores

I am fond of every skilled representation of rare or fictional creatures except good leaders. Those I prefer the majority to imitate badly so I have no reason to believe in them when I shouldn’t.
I hate the idea that people might stop inventing new ones and stick to the old.

Faves: Dragons, centaurs, the Minotaur, Cerebus and Medusa.

Hate: None that I can think of, but I do have some fantasy humanoids to put in a hate list-if a shareday about them were to come up(hint, hint).

    I’ll keep that in mind.

I guess the bold type didn’t work either. I never claimed to be an English major.
