@everyone: Does her hair need more randomness? does this need a bar and people in the background or would a stripper pole and DJ be enough?

@Dionne Jinn: you might look at items 1 and 3 top row in ItemRight / BladesTwo. If you hide the hilt, you have a vine. I am suggesting greenery between the clearing edge and the characters. There are other items in tails, etc.

After Hammerknight’s grid contest, I started playing around with the idea for some other stuff I was working on. This is one of those ideas. Print the images and cut them out for a traveling chess set.

Cute, tasteful, and concise: nicely done.

Anyway, I’d like to offer an update on another, previous drawing. you may recall “Edgar,” the blind, D&D-style sorcerer that I invited assistance on, months ago; here’s how the drawing has progressed since then.

I’ve expanded him into a little roadside scene, where he comes across something enchanted (and very likely evil) on a country path. Behind him, a cat (his familiar, or a stray; I haven’t decided) cowers and snarls, clearly NOT happy with what he’s found, while he tentatively forms a spell in his free hand. It’s as if he’s saying, “I don’t know what you are, but I will fireball you straight to the Nine Hells if you try anything!”

    Please, let ‘er rip! 🙂

I really like that fire effect on his hand and the subtle evil glow of the sword is brilliant! Only thing I can think you might want to improve is shading of the road. It looks too bright when compared to the rest of the dark countryside.

I had to read that couple of times before I actually figured out what you wanted me to do, but you were definitely right and those items make good vines indeed. Also eyebrows have some stuff that make good grass turfs, I noticed that when fixing Tremal-Naik’s (the guy with green shirt) missing right eyebrow. Here is the updated version:

Silence is another Anonymous Hero. She is able to bend the electromagnetic spectrum, allowing her to forego the mask that the others wear. She serves as a lookout and rarely goes into combat.

    Thanks Nick.

I have to agree with Dionne Jinn. The fire effect in the hand is nice and the road is a little too bright, but also, the right hand is a little off. You may want to try a different hand and mask the staff so it looks like he is actually holding the staff. Other than that it looks pretty good.

I hadn’t considered adding a “shade” pattern to the road, because the road, itself, is masked to another item beneath (in order to create a “perspective” effect). It’s a valid suggestion, but it will be tricky.
You’re right about the right hand & the staff, though: I noticed it myself, during the export process.

I like the picture a lot. I f there is anything that I would suggest is that maybe reposition the guy standing behind the tiger. Where he is now, it kinda looks like the tiger is standing on his feet.

(Yes, the ninja star is formed from ice.)

Really like Heatwave. She looks like she just jumped off the pages of a vintage 70’s comic.

@Dionne Jinn: Good improvements. Your epiphytes are nice, too.
@all: anybody got comments on Naylem?

I’m wondering, when some version of Heromachine 3 is going to be released as an off-line version. It wouldn’t have to be final version – naturally – since the project seems to be ongoing, but it’d be nice not be constrained to using the old 2.5 while off-line.

  16. Kalkin says:

I agree with Keith_Kanin, Heatwave is good.

That is a really cool idea.
