HM3: Isn’t it Ionic?

I've just posted an update to the Background-Standard set for HeroMachine 3 with Myro's prize for winning Caption Contest 98. He requested an Ionic Greek column, which I then broke into pieces. I have to say, I'm curious what crazy uses you all come up with for the various bits.

Thanks for picking a great, useful item, Myro!

Thanks, this will help out quite a bit with the background for my Roman warrior.

    This is perfect. Thanks Jeff!

A column? Excellent! I’ve found myself wanting one several times in the past. Well, not anymore!

Excellent! Now, anybody want to add some Doric or Corinthian caps? Egyptian columns? Hmm…statue bases…

Hey, Jeff, sorry to noodge about this, especially given the Golconda of goodies that’ve been arriving lately, but the arrival of the Ionic columns brought up an old issue (which I’m sure you’re aware of) for me: I tried to add a marble effect to the column caps using the grey swirly pattern under the Patterns tab, and it worked great on the base but only covered about the bottom third of the top cap.
I note that the Patterns TAB has 34 patterns in it, but they’re rather limited in what you can do to them, while the more-flexible Patterns MENU has 14 items. Is it possible (when you can work it in, of course) to transfer the other 20 TAB patterns over to the Patterns MENU? I imagine the potential to color them in is a whole nother ball o’ wax, but being able to scale them up and down would be awful handy. Or am I just too ignorant of the enormity of the task to understand the horrendous ramifications of what I’m asking?

Ultimate Spidercow (4): The Doric column I find is a little plain to my liking, but it would be easy enough to replicate with the pieces at hand. By placing the base of the Ionic column at the top of the shaft, and using some resized square insignias, I came up with this simple comparison.

Unless, you wanted your Doric column to taper along its height, to which it doesn’t work.

Corinthians, on the other hand, would be pretty difficult to pull off. I suppose you’d have to use several layers of objects, and mask stuff onto each other to get it to look correct. But, then again, I specifically chose an Ionic column for my prize, because I like the clean, classical look. So it’s not really my problem.

I don’t know what to say about the pattern problem in comment #5 though.

Spidercow2010: That’s something I’d like to do, yes, but it would be a lot of work. Easier would be to just make the existing grayscale patterns larger so they fill more of the screen. Also something I mean to do at some point.

Columns are great. I already have a lot of ideas for them.
