According to the Wall Street Journal's "All Things Digital", Hearst Publishing's UGO (the company that now owns all things HeroMachine) will in the next few days announce that they have been bought out by NewsCorp's IGN. I don't know if it's true or not, and if it is what it will mean for HeroMachine. I don't know anything more than is in this press release but I wanted to give you all a heads-up just in case.
I will say that UGO has always been tremendously supportive both of me and the program. Hopefully if they are indeed merged into IGN, that will continue. We'll just have to wait and see.
Duh, duh, duh . . .
Uncertainty certainly makes things interesting. Thank you for the heads up Jeff.
Hopefully if they aren’t supportive you’ll find something just as good.
If they are not, and being as it’s another pop-culture driven entity I don’t see how that’s possible, then let me be the first to say this. “Thank you for moderating and allowing us to use this creative outlet.” I think I speak for most of us (and if not then my bad) when I say that it has helped us give shape and form to our many ideas and character concepts. It has certainly allowed me a shortcut to my character concepts and designs. It means a lot that you would not only moderate and tweak the various HM applications, but also provide us with away to get feedback on our concepts. It means quite a bit to me that you would help in these and other ways. Thank you Jeff.
But as I said before, I don’t see them cutting out this piece of the site. Though, as Captain Kicktar said, I’m sure you’ll find something just as good.
I wish you the best with this business Jeff.
If things don’t end up going well, then let me just say thank you for all of the help here in the Open Critique Days and just generally providing us a place to design our character concepts. Also, pretty sure you’ll be able to find something IF this doesn’t pan out for you.
IGN seems like an okay bunch, let’s hope there’s not some evil overlord that only forces niceness for the outward presentation.
Preemptive strike. This is a world where disabled people have their insurance taken away and families get kicked out of their houses at the whim of new landlords. I don’t trust anyone with lots of money anymore.
So let me say thank you for being a part of the HM community for far longer than I bet most of the folks on here know. Way back in the days of HM 1.0, I found a great creative outlet, not only for making characters but for writing stories. And the online community at that point was at a time when I had been shunned by virtually all my friends for having a case of Teh Gay.
Thank you for having inspired so many people.
*for letting be a part of the HM community…
Thanks Whit, it’s been a pleasure having you around, and hopefully we’ll all get to stick with this for a lot longer. Still no word on anything, so for now I’m going with Silence is Golden π
