I love me some Super-Bowl, and I love me some Super-Bowl commercials. Here's one that promises to be among the best of the bunch, and proves once again that Nerds Rule!

  2. ajw says:

Yeah i saw that its pretty funny, i wish i had the force.

  3. Nope, not going to watch. Avoiding all the hype until it’s time for the Super Bowl.

Had way too much going on this week. Didn’t even have time to get an entry in for CC 55!

That being said, I have to get ready for the game.

Dude, that is so cute! I could have seen a 6 year old Myro doing that all the time too.

  7. Myro says:

    Also, go Steelers!

  8. Joshua says:

    Yes, Myro…”Go Steelers!” indeed.

    🙂

Speaking of nerds and superbowl commercials…how ’bout the Thor and Cap trailers?

  10. ajw says:

This has become my all time favorite commercial! It’s so amazing!

Congrats to the Packers! Excellent effort by the Steelers!

  13. Jeff Hebert says:

I agree, great game! You can’t ask for anything more than a close contest with one team having a chance to win at the end in the last possession. Very cool!

I thought the online ad (above) was a lot better than the one they actually aired, where they have to cram everything into a very strict time segment and fit in the other stuff like disclaimers and all. But still, for my money it was far and away the best commercial of the lot. I actually was fairly disappointed in the rest of them, they didn’t seem up to the usual level.

I dug the Cap and Thor trailers, but honestly came away a LOT more excited about Thor. The Cap thing, I dunno … a four-color guy racing through the gritty battlefields of WWII just didn’t quite gel for me. I’m still eager to see the movie, don’t get me wrong, but of the two, Thor definitely got my juices flowing a lot more.

  14. Brad says:

Hurrah for the Packers! And wasn’t it awesome to not see the usual slaughter, but an actual GAME?

I agree, they seemed toned-down this year. Where’s our usual awesome Budweiser?

But the Dorito’s dog was pretty damn good.

  15. ams says:

The funniest and grossest one by far was the Dorito’s commercial with the 2 office guys. Are you going to finish those? You left the best part! Finger munch!

  16. Wade says:

That Cap commercial was great. Looks like they’ve nailed everything from the Skull to the pre-Serum Cap.

  17. Though my Steelers lost, good for Rodgers (a big “bleep” you, Favre).

Outside of the game, the commercials were rather bland. The halftime show? Anyone else catch the Queen “Radio Ga Ga” sequence? Or the Tron costumes? Taboo’s outfit made him look like Dynamo from “The Running Man”. Fergie’s rendition of “Sweet Child Of Mine” was way better than Sheryl Crow’s. Ok, so I’m miffed that the Steelers lost.

I will check out Thor. Captain America, maybe. The preview seemed too “Saving Private Ryan” meets “The Matrix”.

Nice that History Channel has “Superheroes Unmasked” today.

  18. Nick Hentschel says:

The thing to remember about the commercial is, that the parents probably grew up with “Star Wars,” as much as their child did*, so they probably sympathize a little (a rare case where the kids & parents are on the same page, culturally).

*Note that I say, “child,” and not “son”: how do we necessarily know that it’s a boy under there?;-)

  19. Jeff Hebert says:

I saw the kid on one of the morning shows this morning — definitely a boy 🙂 Cute, too, looked a little like Anakin.

My friends who are my age, who now have kids, all say the kids are totally into Star Wars. Granted they grew up with Clone Wars and the prequels, but they usually go back and watch the first trilogy too when they’re of age and Darth Vader is always a hit.

  20. The Imp says:

I liked the Vader kid commercial, but yeah, that was the only good one out of the bunch, I thought.

The Doritos one with the guy sucking the other guy’s finger and then licking the pants of another dude was just… disturbing.

I was stoked after seeing the Cap and Thor trailers; of the two I’m leaning more towards liking Cap, but the Thor flick looks pretty bad-ass too.

  21. Nick Hentschel says:

I don’t disbelieve you, Jeff. But there *are* girls who like “Star Wars,” and I wanted to give them some exposure, too.;-);-)
