The widescreen view does not let you use the print screen function. As soon as I hit the ctrl key to do a print screen the view snaps back to the normal view with all the menus. The only thing wide screen will allow me to do is print it to a PDF or a hard copy.

That is something I need to address in the next code rewrite, but in the meantime what I do is switch to some other application with the HM browser in the background. I minimize the front, active application or at least move it out of the way so it’s not covering the widescreen HM browser window, then do a screen capture and crop out the other stuff.

That is strange because the print screen function has been working fine for me sinse day one.

  4. haz says:

Command+Control+Shift+4 (on a Mac at least) lets you select the area you want to take a snapshot of. This is what I use most often.

After I posted it I tested the Ctrl printscreen fucntion. It does work but you have to do it extremely fast and both have to be done exactly at the same time or else it collaspes too fast. I have been able to get it to work periodically…no big deal.

  6. Worf says:

@Paul: The trick is, once you are in wide-screen mode, click anywhere outside the application and THEN do print screen… You should find that you don’t need superhuman speed or any other powers then…. 😉

I have one complaint, when I’m creating characters, often times when I use multible items, they lock in place, won’t move, and I can’t click on them at all. And sometimes when I DO try to click on them, it goes to another set (Example: normal torso items, if it locks, it’ll go to spandex). It’s been doing this ever since I started using it. I can’t figure out how to fix it either, and it does it on 3 seprate computers, so it’s not just my computer. it constantly messes me up when I try creating new stuff.

Can you please try and fix this? I’d love to spend hours creating bigger things (Like backgrounds) but I never get to from constantly refreshing because of this glitch.

One thing that I do if it locks on me is to go ahead and save it in HM, when you open the file again it will unlock it. Once and a while some things change but it is better then doing the whole picture again. Another thing is to work slow, give it time to complete the step. Try to do the patterning last because patterns slow it way down. When masking bring up all of the items you need to mask first then start masking, this will help you with reworking and locking up also. The best thing is go go slow and not rush it.

Don’t know how I found this, but on a PC, hitting ALT+PrintScrn works for widescreen capture too.

I just experienced a glitch I haven’t seen before. Now admitedly I was messing with my flash settings so I don’t think this is eclusively related to HM3 (and therefore nothing really for Jeff to fix). It was pretty interesteing though. My character got stuck in large mode in front of all the buttons.

  11. @Hammerknight: As always, thanks for the Primers and Recipe Cards.

@MMI: That is new. But you know what, it’s actually a cool effect.

I’ve had my share of locks and twists. I save my character then re-load the page. Sometimes I clear my cache, even shut down my laptop altogether. A little frustrating at times, but oh well. Worse things have happened at sea.

I’m still trying to develop a Character Settings chart. Literally write down the Transformation settings. One thing that I really would like to see is the Items show their actual Scale, Rotation, and Location when you click on them. Right now, the Settings numeric values reflect the previous Item’s values.

They do show Scale in the graph area but not in the x-y%. I bet when this is fixed, it will eliminate the “lock-grab-twist” that we encounter.

Alt-PrtSc works for IE 8, then paste into Paint.

Finally… I know this has been addressed dozens of time. But where to find the Saved Character files? Isn’t it like a “.pl” file in your browser folders? I have so many Saved, that it’s pages of scrolling. I’d like to migrate them so I have a clean Menu. By the by, the scrolling feature is backwards. 😉

    @The Atomic Punk (11)

Yah, actually I thought it was pretty cool actually. I’m going to keep playing around to see what else I can make happen. Sometimes you can see the whole character in the large format with the white background, that is pretty cool.

  13. I noticed a few grammar errors and typos mister HammerKnight but this is still pretty helpful for anyone new to system!
    :p

@paul I only press prnt scrn for screen captures and that works fine for me, i usually use firefox though so maybe its different in other browsers. Alternatively you can find actual screen capture software aswell and maybe use that.

  15. Hammerknight says:

@Nicholas, I did send these in with out letting my editor look at them first.

  16. Me, Myself & I says:

While using a PC and either Firefox or Internet Explorer, the PRINT SCREEN button works fine for me. I just do a screen capture and crop out what I don’t want.
