SOD.197 – Superman Paladin

Riffing off the RPG Corner topic today, I give you Clark Kent, Paladin:

Note that the armor design is a direct rip-off of this AD&D illustration. Apologies to WotC!

Edited to Add: And here it is in color, by request in the comments.

This image rocks! Superman as a Paladin is perfect.

I’ve never been a fan of the whole Anime weapon to large to wield thing but in Superman’s case, he was strong enough. Most of the time it is just hard to suspend my disbelief.

I love the detail on the armor. Certainly the best part in my oppinion.

  2. kingmonkey says:

Very slick! Well done, Monsieur Hébert.

  3. Connor S. says:

Great on today, Jeff! It’s cool how you combined Fantasy with Superheroes, and as Me, Myself, & I said, the detail on the armor is great!

  4. Tim K. says:

Very nicely done. I like it a lot.

  5. drummergirl4 says:

    This is win.

  6. Joshua says:

    I.love.this.picture.

    Sheer perfection.

  7. Hammerknight says:

There was an old episode of Super Friends where Superman was the Black Knight. Does anyone else remember it?

  8. Jigglypuff says:

Pure Win! Can you please color it in? I’d like to see how he would look with his usual color scheme!

  9. Me, Myself & I says:

Ohhh, color could be nice indeed. I’d leave the breastplate shiny and silvery though.

  10. Worf says:

Great job Jeff. Love the Details on the “S”s… both on the belt and on the shoulder.

I’m also amazed that no one has either:

    1) recognized that hammer from HM3 or;

    2) ASKED for that hammer in HM3 😉

  11. Jake says:

This looks great. I especially like the color version.

  12. Hammerknight says:

Does anyone remember the Super Friends episode where Superman was the Black Knight?

  13. Me, Myself & I says:

Alright, I agree, the breast plate looks really great colored to.

I’m not so sure about the green on the hammer though; maybe a lighter blue or red.

  14. Hammerknight says:

Super Friends had an episode where Superman was the Black Knight.

  15. Jadebrain says:

Truly a great picture, though I agree with MM&I that the hammer could be colored differently.

By the way, I’ve noticed that in HM3 there’s no sandal piece for the foot in MaleStandard. There’s a shin-piece, but there’s nothing to match on the foot itself.

  16. Gargoyle323 says:

WOW! Truly stunning! I loved it without the color, but with the
    color….WOW!!! Great job ,as usual,Jeff!

  17. Jeff Hebert says:

Yeah, I was iffy on the green. Somewhere I was thinking Kryptonite, and then I was like “But then he wouldn’t be super. Of course he wouldn’t be a Paladin if he was super, either.” And then I got distracted by something shiny and left it green.

  18. X-stacy says:

I get the feeling you’re trying to convey some information to us, Hammerknight. But what could it be? 😉

  19. Jeff Hebert says:

Heh, not HK’s fault, for some reason his comments are getting marked as spam and I have to go in and manually approve them, but when that happens it doesn’t give the commenter any kind of notification, so it looks like the comment just got lost. Then I come in, approve them, and it looks like multiples.

  20. Aeternus606 says:

A helm like that would be a good addition to HM3, don’t you think?

  21. kingmonkey says:

Superfriends had an episode where Supes was the Black Knight. I’m surprised Hammerknight didn’t know that.

  22. frankie says:

Very cool. It looks great with the colors. To me the green works. It makes the hammer look magical. I know magic is one of Superman’s weaknesses, but, I do beleive that a Paladin is a knight who uses magic. I could be wrong since I dont know much about that kind of stuff.(I’m not that kind of geek.) Also green is a traditional Superman mythos color.

  23. Snorter says:

A very nice piece, very clean.
Just FYI, while you do admit that the armor is based on another picture, it needs a credit to the original artist (Wayne Reynolds), the copyright holder (Paizo Publishing), and the game (Pathfinder, though originally created for a D&D 3rd Edition adventure).
And you show your grognard roots; AD&D hasn’t been around for 10 years…

  24. Jeff Hebert says:

Thanks Snorter, I didn’t know who drew the illustration, just that it was something for the D&D line.

And you show your grognard roots; AD&D hasn’t been around for 10 years…

    That’s only fair, since I haven’t played it in 20 🙂

  25. Watson Bradshaw says:

awesome pic Jeff, love the idea of the shield being on his shoulder. Looks like Sup’s just kicked Thor’s ass and took the hammer as a price.
