    Is he in pain?
That’s what his face looks like and his neck seems too big/stressed for the scale of the rest of the picture.

Still I love the background and perspective.

  2. Jeff Hebert says:

He just got punched and flung across the room by a giant, so yes, pain is what I was going for 🙂

The idea was that his neck was all tensed up and his head/chin tucked in as the force of the blow blew him out and away.

I can’t say I am super happy with the drawing overall, but I actually like the head and neck a lot.

Here is a question. Where was the point of impact on Cap? Tough to tell. My first take on seeing this was not that he was struck from behind but that he was dodging. After looking again I think it is because his right arm appears to be forward and “strong”, and that is what makes it look more like a dodge than a hit. Just my opinion of course! Great stuff though Jeff.

  4. Wesley Belk says:

I think its a bit of both! He was in the midst of a dodge, and yet the punch, coming from a giant, was still able to glance, perhaps across his entire backside! I don’t remember Cap’n ever having to go up against a giant, other than maybe some quarrels against Giant Man, but either way, he’s gonna have his hands full! HAha!

  5. Bael says:

It may be bad real world physics, but it is fairly accepted comic practice that a giant’s blow on the ground has a shock wave. No direct hit necessary. Very Silver Age Marvel. I like it.

  6. Jeff Hebert says:

What Bael said — big shock wave from the punch is flinging him. Very Hulk-ish.

I think Rick is right about the hand though, I struggled with how to position the hand. I think the fist was the wrong way to go, it says strength and control when he’s supposed to be blasted. I should’ve gone with the fingers splayed.

I guess what happened (post-hoc rationalizations FTW!) is that he glimpsed the blow coming and jumped out of the way just as it hit, so he’s half leaping, half getting blown away.

He also just had a nice risotto for lunch and is thinking about puppies.

  7. Tim K. says:

Might be the problem, it did look more active than results of the giant hitting him. Probably the fact his body is somewhat evenly positioned where impacts tend to cause more bodily bend.
Not that I could draw it anyway..

    *Cough* Please. *Cough*

Need some Zicam or something… 🙂

  9. Cliff says:

I think it’s great and while I didn’t think he was actually struck, did figure he was hit by some shockwave. My two cents.
    Great work.

Of course he’s dodging! Cap doesn’t ‘get hit’ like the rest of us suckers. Cap dodges the giant’s fist and teaches the giant a lesson for being uppity! That’s just how he rolls.
