The Secret Lair
He MIGHT have been champ, if he was GOOD at rollerskating at all…
What an inane statement.
He might have been a genius, but he was stupid …
He might have been the worlds strongest man, but he was weak …
There are a lot of things one might be, if only they weren’t the opposite.
I hope the full context of this panel fleshes this out a bit more. Another artist who doesn’t draw feet, hmm.
No, this is pretty much it — the guy wants to be a great skater except that he’s not, so his girlfriend gets him magic skates from a gnome. Seriously.
I can’t stop laughing. Magic skates from a gnome … please tell me that they made him a hero … Rollerboy or The Rinkmaster or something.
So, he became a super hero with the power of being the worlds best skater! But only when he cheats. I love it.
Don’t discount his natural grace and suppleness Oquies, as you can clearly see by his stance in the panel. I mean, if that doesn’t scream “ROBOT!” I don’t know what does. So you have to give him credit for earning the love of a human woman AND the services of a magical gnome, all while being an artificial life form AND having no coordination at all.
If that’s not heroic, I don’t know what is.
And so, Liefeld’s inspiration is revealed.
