The Secret Lair
I don’t think the coat/cape thingy works. The shorts aren’t right for this costume, and I don’t like the shoes. To me this costume looks goofy. All this is, of course, just my opinion.
I wanted something younger than the other Superwoman version, which is where the shorts and shoes come from. Just a little experiment.
I like it. It’s a more youthful kind of look, which works. I would’ve made the shoes blue with yellow laces though…
I tried that, but I just couldn’t break away from the “Superpeople have red shoes” paradigm. Apparently I’m a slave to tradition, sigh.
I’d love to see the coat/cape as a new item in HM3!
^^^^
John’s words are wise.
Must … control … fist of … death …
It looks good, except the shoes scream Ronald McDonald. Maybe his baby shoes.
@John and Neon
This is an very easy one to put together. All it requires is a little moving and the use of about 3 triangles and 2 squares (Don’t even really need the squares)
Here is a quick one I did.

You also have to remember that, like Jeff said when he started, these are more to help him draw and get the cobwebs out (because there is a ton of tedious work in programming and drawing the HM3 things) and not to done for item ideas.
The blue nail polish is a nice touch.
The picture is rather busy. A lot of mixed elements that really clash. The red shoes and yellow laces are traditional and a mainstay. With a touch, a definite “Teen Titans” Supergirl. Not that the sketch or Teen Titans is bad, just, sorry, seems a rather forced image.
I see the playing with light with Owlbear and now the shadow with Supergirl. It’s great. Seriously, you are putting everything out there. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Don’t stop. You incorporate all the feedback not just into HeroMachine, but into everyone’s inspiration.
I love to write but can’t draw. Now I not only envision my characters, but can give them form. “Look into my mind’s eye.”
With that suck-up, I do agree with John. Please add the cape!
I want the cape, too. Please add it!!!!!!!
It’s not hard to duplicate the cape guys. I have a comment pending moderation that recreates it.
I think the coat/cape might work if it had long sleaves. I would replace the shorts with long tights, and I would replace the tennis shoes with the traditional red Supergirl boots. Something else to consider is ditching that thing on her wrist and giving her red fingerless gloves. I shouldn’t have referred to your design as “goofy”. Ignore me and I’ll go away.
@Jeff: Great Dilbert quote! I used to have that cartoon up on my cubicle.
I dig it, Jeff. The old-school “S” symbol and the blue nail polish are great touches.
@Punk: Thanks for the kind words, I am trying to keep it real yo. I can say that because I’m so street — forty year old bald guys who live in the country are nothing if not street.
@Danny: Those elements would look nice, but not young. I was really going for a young Supergirl here, like 16 or 15. Hence the Keds and the shorts and the wrist bangles.
The problem with adding the cape is that you’d have to add it in two parts, one as a coat top and then the backing. Of course you could use a current Cape lowered and scaled for the backing.
I have to admit, the cape is really cool (my favorite part actually) but it can be duplicated fairly easily with existing items.
I like this image a lot over all but I do think the shoes should be a different color.
Mhh… this is the closest thing I could do…

The light gray area of the cape should be over the body, but it isn’t. That would be easy to to if the dark gray area could become transparent (but it isn’t possible with that particular item).
I like it Neon!
For those of you interested, I’ve updated the illustration with white shoes and red laces. I think it looks a lot better that way. Image here.
@Neon
I used two triangles from Insignias to make it look like it was on top of her body.
@ DJ
Yes, I know, but I’m not particularly fond of that neither.
@ Jeff
IMO, it looks better now.
Yeah, the white sneakers definitely look better…
I thought you said you sucked at drawing women? I for one disagree. I think you are quite capable.
The white shoes are indeed better.
i like it i dont care what the other people thank it looks good to me.
