Alternate version after the jump.

This was my first pass at this, but I thought he looked too cartoony. I decided it was the eyes being mounted on the front of the skull instead of more over on the sides, so I did that and added a nose horn to make it look more alien. Not entirely happy with this one, but such is the nature of sketching.
To be honest, I’m not sure which one I like more.
I wouldn’t say the top one looks much less cartoony but more methodical.
These could be two separate characters. Like a croc version of Pinky and the Brain.
I agree with CPrime. They look like two separate characters and I’m unsure which one I like better. I might like the more cartoony one because of the slit pupil eyes, something which is oddly absent on HM.
I prefer the first one.
But the second one has cooler eyes.
And as Jake said, those eyes are not available on HM.
So I’m turning this post into a formal request to include those eyes 🙂
Jeff, could you please add those eyes(or similar ones) to HM ?
That’s a good point, I need to do a set of those eyes.
I agree with the others, though I think I lean towards the lower one. Maybe it’s just the style of it, maybe it’s the eyes. Glad to hear that you’re learning more and that the objective is being met!
I do enjoy the drawings, and don’t mean to rush you, but when are you going to return to work on HM3? I’m looking forward to the fantasy section you said you were putting in. Just my thoughts, not to be negative.
And I think that the revamp is a much better version. It gives a sinister, evil air to the picture, and the shadows are very helpful.
It would be cool if you did a scene. (This is my last post, don’t worry lol :P) Like a battle. And also, I think it would be great if you added those eyes. And the horn thingy on the muzzle is sweet :P.
Agree with all. The eyes are definitely the window to the… whatever it is that reptilian monsters have: soul, spirit, a braincase?
Uh, Connor, these sketches aren’t keeping Mr. Hebert from working on Hero Machine. They might be keeping him from going crazy, though.
Yah, what x-stacy said. These sketches only take maybe 15 minutes at the most, they’re a nice break.
At the moment it doesn’t look like I am doing much on HM3, but it’s at that “let it stew in my brain” stage. I am trying to mentally work through the various layout and function issues so I’ll know what to code. It’s a weird part of the creative process where you have to kind of just let things simmer in your backbrain.
I prefer the second one but would color in the neclace like on the first one.
