HM3: Framed, I tells ya!

I added the frame from that "elf lady" sketch of the day to the Background-Shapes set in HeroMachine 3. So ha, I DO do something, some days!

I also hid tomorrow's SOD in the Companions-Standard set somewhere, but if you don't want a spoiler don't go hunting.

Jeff, is it possible to add more colors to the Heromachine?

  2. Jeff Hebert says:

Eric, if you click on the “Custom” tab under the color palettes, you can mix any color you want. Literally millions of possibilities.

In terms of the pre-set swatches. I already think we’re sort of at the point of diminishing returns, where there are too many options to easily sort through, while still being able to tell which color is which.

Its Kinda Hard Adding Greys, Browns, And Skin Tones With That Thing.

  4. Jeff Hebert says:

You can always get the hex or RGB value for the color you want from various web pages (here’s one, and here’s the Google Search for more), or photo editing program and manually type them in.

In the pre-set color swatches there are 32 skin tones plus the two you had in HM2.5. There are 18 shades of gray plus black and white. How many pre-generated shades of gray can you possibly want? What other 18 colors would you cut to make room for more?

Seriously, there are three separate ways you can enter literally any color in the world to the program. I’m at a bit of a loss as to what would be more complete. Or what set of pre-generated colors would keep someone else from wanting a different sub-set. Not enough reds, not enough blues, cut that for this, on and on. Eventually you’d get to the point where each color swatch would be one pixel wide, whereupon you’d have … the color gradient in the Custom tab.

    Nice frame, nice companion.

The color palette seems very complete to me. And we even have both: Hex and RGB inputs.

The only improvement I can think of is filling those 7 empty spaces at the end, but I don’t know what could be placed there.

  6. Demented The Clown says:

Only Real Problem I Have Is Browns. I Wish There Was A Tan To Brown Color Chart The Go With The Standard 1.

  7. Moneymaker says:

These are great additions, and I like the new companion. On that note, i noticed in the Companions Vehicles there isn’t a prop plane or any plane actually on the ground for that matter, as if the hero is standing in front of his plane on the airstrip. i think that would be a great addition for “Sky Captain” esque characters. love what you do here, keep going strong!

  8. Me Myself & I says:

I think the color options are sufficient. Especially considering the links you provided.

Nicely done on the frame by the way.

  9. John says:

Casual users have the pre-set color palette to help them out. Advanced users should take advantage of the ability to mix your own colors. That’s why Hero Machine is da bomb.

I love the colour palette (:
But, personally, I would love it if it had more then 3 colour changers. It’s good and all, but I would have added 2 more, if you know what I mean??!
I mean it’s great to have colour 1, colour 2 and line colour but it would be nice to have a darker and lighter selection…
    If that made any sence?!

I don’t suppose you could add a more dynamic scarf tail could you? The current one looks a bit flat as you can see with my character here. A slightly chitinous body that match the style of the boots would be nice too if you find the time.

  12. Jeff Hebert says:

I’m sorry Michael, but there’s no way I can make a scarf awesome enough to merit 7 points of Striking Appearance. I’m not artistically capable of that level.

  13. Michael says:

Can you at least make one that flutters?

  14. Mike says:

Hey, I was pleased to see that hero machine is being upgraded! You had asked us about whether the multiples selection was intuitive. I’m not sure about that. It took me a while to figure it out, but this is DEFINATELY a necessary feature. Good work so far!
