BUGS!

At the urging of both Damien and Violodion, I've put up a HeroMachine 3 Bugs page, perma-linked over there in the right column. I and Damien will try to keep that updated with your reports so I can remember not to forget what's going on, and so you can quickly see if what's happening to you is "normal bad" or "unusual bad".

Let me be the one to kick off the bug reports. You are probably already aware of this, because I’ve seen other people complain about it, but the “save as PNG” Option doesn’t seem to be working properly. When I’m designing the character, the image is normal sized, but when I hit that PNG button, the saved image is a fraction of its original size–a tiny figure surrounded by a huge amount of white space. I even created a very simple test character and deliberately avoided any transforming options and still had the same problem. Weird thing is, I didn’t notice this problem until recently. Wha’ happen?

Other than that, great work. I’m sure you’ll get this straightened out eventually.

    Cheers!

Thanks Niall. That was actually entry number two on the page 🙂 The problem is with the Hand items. Remove the hand and it’s fine, add a Hand and you get the problem. I don’t know why it’s happening, or why it just started happening, but that’s what the proximate cause is. I need to take a look and figure it out.

Rhetorical: How big is the invisible “Mask” layer of the stack on Hands? (Alternatively, could be an artifact on the canvas of the Item, yet outside the viewport.)

Tried a quick test with ONE object: a hand. Different hands at the same rotation output files with different dimensions, but similarly over-sized.

Sooo…rotating the same object 90°, 180°, 270° changes the output dimensions. Hence, whatever the “save file as” is accommodating is way outside and moves.

Of course, we know the output file is actually fine since the ‘white space’ is transparent. Thusly, likely not something the Color1, Color2, or LineArt layers of the item stack.

Well that sounds the same problem I have encountered when i try to save the character as a pdf.

Everything seems to go fine but as soon as I add hands then go to save it as a pdf it becomes blank, with no character on display at all.

Also noticed a problem when trying to put a transparency on something now. (i.e. skeleton body underneath a transparent body doesn’t work anymore). It did a couple of weeks ago as i made a character that way, but when I came to redo him last week he saved without the transparancy (the top body came out with out the transparency).

I know I sent you an email about it Jeff, but just though it best to add here too, so you can keep bugs in one tidy place.

    Scorp

I dont know whether its my browser or the program but some categories take really long to lad now, i also i have tried several tie to make my next Animalia entry but i cant get through it without bugs and when i save reaload page and then load character to keep working many items are gone, very frustrating as it looks like i wont ever finish at this rate, not if progress keeps getting un done when i load. Is there some sort of limit to how many item can be on canvas at once, could that be why items dissappear? *shrugs*

I just started using HM 3 and while I like it overall but thought I should point out a sort of problem. The shirts don’t work with the crossed arms. Probably like that for other arm poses as well as legs and such. Will this ever be changed?

  8. Jeff Hebert says:

@Dani: Welcome! No, the alternate-pose limbs will not get every other item dependent on them re-drawn to fit. The shirts will, however, be separated out into pieces, so you’ll have the base shirt, the upper sleeve, and the lower sleeve. Probably. It’s kind of up in the air at this point, I need to keep watching how people play with it to see how far down that road I need to go.

Hi i’ve been having some problems with HM3. So, first off, sometimes when I select an item or a shirt or an insignia to “try it on” so to speak, and i decide I don’t like it or in neads resizing or something, said item sometimes does not respond to any commands. I press delete item and it won’t delete. It wont let me rotate or resize it either. Even when I press “delete all items” it still remains.

The second problem I’ve had was with the coloring. Sometimes, when I click on “colors” it will only give me a blank box.

While I’m here, I have just some random questions. When will a hammer be available as a weapon? When will item’s subcategories contain the same categories (for example there are more sub categories for itemright than itemleft)? Also, will a comedy/drama mask be featured on HM3?

    Thanks!

Occasionally if I rotate an item, I then am unable to move it past a point on the screen, so say if I rotate a forearm but am then unable to move it back to the rest of the arm. This problem persists once it has happened.

    Hello!

I not sure if this is a bug or if it has already been reported, but I have noticed that when using the mask opption, it will only allow me to “mask one item” For example, if I wanted two people to be holding an item where mask is needed, only one would be allowed.

Also, on one picked I worked on, I masked the pole part of the spear to the hand and that worked fine. When I added the blade part, the mask portion reverted to normal. Latter I figured that if I completed the spear then use the mask, it worked, but latter used another “item right” on a different portion of the image and again the mask reverted.

Thanks for taking the time to read my message.
