CDC #427 – Team Building – Volume 2 – Part 15 – Finale

So first of all, I have to thank all the creators that came out to play over the past 14 weeks or so. You continually surprise me with your creativity and talent. So now we are down to the last challenge: to design a logo and come up with a name for both the team of heroes and the team of villains. Last year’s winning names were The New Samaritans and Lunatic Fringe. If you decide to enter  you must enter all four segments (2 logos and 2 names). Also, one person might not win it all. There could be as many as 4 winners

The prize for winning…or being one of the winners….will be a hero or villain based on you and designed by me to add to the existing roster of 8 members per team. As a reminder the members are:

Heroes:

  Totem   Mach 20

 Raptor or  Harpie (tie)

 Gauntlet    Achillia

 Apollo      Beacon

  Flare

Villains:

  Seth  Pin Up

  Guanlong (tie)

  Dark Web    Smoke

  Mirrors   Tick Tock

  Wildfire

Please follow the instructions below regarding the naming of entries.

Enter as often as you like!

If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine :,ImageShack, Deviant Art or whatever);Do not use Photobucket.

  • No copyrighted characters please – they will be deleted.
  • Please name your filesas [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.

This contest will close at 9am Eastern on Sunday, August 25th.

So on the wildfire contest page you said he was the second to last villain. So was he meant to be the final villain character? Or did we miss one?

In Egyptian mythology, Seth is the god of chaos and is associated with the color red. The Egyptian concept of chaos is called “Isfet”, so I chose that as the name of the villain team. Their logo consists of the hieroglyphs for Isfet:

Because Totem has Native American heritage, I named the hero team “Thunderbirds”. Here is their logo:

    Here are my entries

    For the Hero team: https://www.deviantart.com/nerd0and0proud/art/NerdAndProud-Beholders-of-Virtue-logo-810605416
The term virtue is defined as “a quality morally good or desirable in a person.” The heroes of this team value virtuous behavior and use it as some kind of tool to right the wrongs of others, and keep the villains of the world at bay. The logo features a wrench, which is screwing on a Yin-Yang symbol. The Yin-Yang symbol symbolizes balance, and peace for all. This is their main goal, to provide balance to the world and keep it safe from harm. This is why the wrench is screwing it on, the wrench symbolizes the team, or the team’s efforts. They are doing everything in their power to keep the peace, and keep the villains at bay.

    For the villain Team: https://www.deviantart.com/nerd0and0proud/art/NerdAndProud-The-Malevolent-Society-logo-810606062
The term malevolent (or malevolence) is defined as “Having or showing a wish to do evil to others.” The villains on this team have every desire to do whatever they want by any means necessary. They have zero regard for the law, or what other people think of them. Their plans for the world are larger than any wildfire, and they are just biding their time, ticking like a time bomb. No-one dare oppose them.

Villain Team: The Legion of Chaos

The villains bickered amongst themselves. There were alliances within the group, but many of them simply did not like each other.

“Ladies and Gentlemen!” said the approaching figure, feigning astonishment. “I am surprised at your manners!” The villains instantly recognized the distinct voice of Seth, remarkable more for its passionate, angry, and charismatic tone rather than for its rather common, generic sound.

“What is our mission?” asked Pinup.

“This is not a mission, per se, so much as an issue of… well, branding. They can’t very well cower in fear if they don’t know who’s attacking, can they?”

“I mean, they actually can…” said Mirrors.

“SILENCE!” bellowed Seth. “Anyway, we need an identity. A name to strike fear into all who hear it.” Guanlong and Pinup rolled their eyes, but the rest were utterly captivated by his passion. “We are on a quest. A quest to spread our agenda of anarchy! Therefore we shall be the Legion of Chaos! As for how to market ourselves, I have an idea for an insignia. Our mission is against society. And what better symbol for society than the archetypical city? The city, full of corruption, crime, homelessness, hunger. All of society’s evils within a single urban sprawl. And what better symbol for chaos than fire? Not wishing to shape things, simple to destroy, to revert them to their natural shapes. Not a force of society, but one of nature. Nine flames, nine of us. Nine legionaries!”

“Enough!” yelled Guanlong. “Some of us don’t care about your politics, Seth! Will I get the money!”

“Yes, of course you will! Don’t worry, all in due time. Now, is anyone a graphic designer? Nobody? Oh well, we’ll get there eventually.”

    Hero Team: The Advocates

“So, what do we call ourselves?” asked Mach 20.

“I’ve got it! Beacons of Hope,” said Beacon. Flare slapped him.

“Hmm,” said Achilla. “Do we have anything in common.”

“Not much,” admitted Totem. “We have no shared powers, no shared background. All we have in common is that we have great abilities, and we believe in using them to do the right thing. Though we are mighty, many are weak. We must help those who need us, in any way they might need. Not only must we fight crime, and the forces of nature, we must fight injustice in all its forms. We must assist those who can’t assist themselves. We must be their Advocates.”

The large hand offering itself to a smaller hand reaching for assistance represents the mighty advocates helping the “little guy.” The world map in the background represents the team’s global reach and background. I made this insignia using the headshot feature.

  7. Xinmodic says:

For the villains I named the team “Seth’s Acolytes” The name is in reference to religious beliefs and followers and how the character Seth is able to get his acolytes to follow him. The symbol is clearly based on Seth himself.

For the heroes I named them “Archangels” seeing as a good portion of the team has a slight bird aesthetic I took that for the inspiration. The name archangel matches the religious tones of seths acolytes and match the angelic/bird theme and hero/guardian concepts.
