Open Critique Day #H11

Here it is again, time to let us see what you have been working on.

About Hammerknight

I may not be the best with grammar and spelling but I try. And I don't mind having my mistakes pointed out.

  1. Haven’t have time to do anything new, but I’m not sure if I have OCD:ed this before, so here comes:

  2. this is Void:
    http://fav.me/d41a0eb

    any thoughts and Ideas?

  3. A question abt background.–Would a stripper pole and DJ be enough or should I show more of the bar?
A question abt her hair.–More randomness or more wave from where she was?

  4. @Dionne: first of all, excellent couch / daybed. (are those belts?) You might consider a door handle or hinges (a suggestion of hinge might be less work) If this is anything like Earth, perhaps a rolled-up prayer rug or a political or religious wall hanging? Your table is excellent, but a bit crowded–why all that for 1-2 people?

@Guy: I want to see him interacting for context. Is he named Void because things disappear into him? Maybe have him barely stepping into darkness from a lit area to show that HE disappears? Have three objects, and the one closest to him is ‘voided’ or ruined?

Thanks. Yes, they are belts. You can find that sofa in my forum thread in Custom-Backgrounds section, if you’re interested.

A prayer rug might work – the man with the turban is a Muslim, after all – but from the amount of alcohol used in that room you can probably tell he is unlikely to observe any rules posed on him by any religion. But also some symbols of Christian faith might have found their way there as loot.

And the table is crowded because the description reads: “An ebony table, inlaid with mother-of-pearl and trimmed with silver, stood in the center of the room, covered with bottles and glasses of the purest crystal.” (Sandokan – The Tigers of Mompracem, Emilio Salgari) So it is not “set” for two people, actually.

  6. @Guy Diga- Your guy void kinda reminds me of a character I made for a Nightbane campaign. Nice.

William Henry Lassiter, aka Lasher, is a bounty hunter known for playing a little rough. By day, he follows the rules… kind of… He tracks down fugitives from justice and turns them in. Those that don’t learn thier lesson from Hank, will get a much less plesant visit from his alternate ego, Lasher. Lasher does not play by anyone’s rules. Those that continue to break the law, in his eyes, deserve only one sentence. Death.

I can’t say what the background needs, but it does need something to show what really is going on there. Also, I think she needs an ear visible and some blood where she is pierced by that walking stick/arrow thing. The pose is impressive, though. Very dynamic.

  8. I want to ask about my little work.

So the picture name is true self.

    http://www.heromachine.com/blog/wp-content/forum-image-uploads/tarkabarka/2013/02/Harlequin_True_Self.PNG

A lot of people hide his/her true self. Everyone have a good reason why do it. But no one can do this forever. Our true self always shown out.

I interesting for a few things.
    1. The picture is good for my concept theme.
    2. Seen the similarity of the male and the female face.
    3. The expression of thinking is coming out of the picture.
    4. Need anything for the picture which more shown the two separate part.

    I personally thanks any critique.

Silence is another Anonymous Hero. She is able to bend the electromagnetic spectrum, allowing her to forego the mask that the others wear. She serves as a lookout and rarely goes into combat.

  10. I made this for the Amalgam contest on the forums. As a combination of two original characters, it’s okay, but how about on its own? Is there anything specific that would make it a better standalone design?

I just realized that this might be breaking the rules since it’s an entry into a currently-running contest. Is that a problem, if I will not alter it until the contest is over?

I asked about this from Hammerknight before and he said he was fine with us posting contest characters to OCD, but wondered why we wanted to post them if we thought they were good enough to contests.

  13. I did this one just for fun,
nothing quite like a good Pun.

  14. @Dionne: is it bad that I want the spear to have completely missed Naylem? And thank you for critiquing her. [ears, yikes] Oh, and your guys; I must not have read that part of the text. Loot and a suggestion of hinge, then.
@Keith: Neat pics. Funny that a centaur would box. –I’m afraid I don’t get the pun? Lasher’s great. The cigarette adds quite a touch.
@Suleman: the cloth-looking part covered with circuit pattern looks off. Maybe don’t put the pattern on the lower part? Good pose.
@Kicktar: Maybe show her putting up an illusion too?
@Harlequin: Stubble is a good way to make a face male. It’s in facial hair. Frown lines might make them look too old, so you might work on eyebrow position or ‘build up the brow ridge’ or ‘add lines to purse the lips’ if you can do that.
Something is wrong with that sleeve. Not sure what to say.

  15. I made this as an example for the Thursday challenge One piece
    should I shorten the skirts?

    http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/q539/kjell17/Special%20cases%20Source%20material/onepiece_zps91d95f0f.png

  16. Uh–I would always say shorter skirts on a woman is better?

  17. Shorter skirts? Hmm. How ’bout the Marilyn Monroe effect?

Maybe I should have had an Italian flag hanging behind this stallion.

  19. Keith_Kanin: Maybe I should have had an Italian flag hanging behind this stallion.

Yep, then it would have been a joke we were all in on, knowing that you were going for the Italian Stallion!

on another note, I just thought it would be cool if we had some type of Saiyan armors. If DBlade or anyone else is working on, taking suggestions, or trying to think of a prize to cash in.
