META: Hall of Fame

I have always been frustrated with my inability to get a proper “Hall of Fame” type of page going where you could see all sorts of awesome characters in one place.

As of today, that frustration is history! If you click on the teaser ad up there in the banner labeled “Featured Character”, you will now be taken to the HeroMachine Hall of Fame.

Plus, that little widget is now randomized, so every time the page is reloaded you should see a new character featured there. Neat, hunh?!

Sweet, Jeff, and many thanks for my inclusion. But shouldn’t these be subject to change? I mean, surely there are many more works equally worthy of Fame. Are you considering varying the selections from time to time?

  2. Nice job, Jeff.

I was wondering why the featured character was changing so much. I’m happy to be included but don’t really understand why you chose Chains. Of all my creations I wouldn’t rank him anywhere near any of my best.

And I agree with spidercow. There are bound to be some truly incredible creations in the future, the occasional update would be great.

  4. Awesome!!! Especially as (hopefully), it’ll grow over time :D

  5. The idea was always supposed to be that it would essentially be a repository for all the Contest winners.

What took so long was figuring out a way to make it so the page would automatically update whenever I dumped a new image into the folder without my having to resize it or recode the html.

So, yeah, every new contest winner that I think is awesome will go in there, along with whatever other non-winning submissions blow me away, and the page will automatically update it. I don’t want to remove older ones, though, I’d like them all to be there.

  6. I was wondering last night why the Featured Character wasn’t the one that won the last contest, and then I noticed it kept changing. This is a really cool idea!

Just wondering, are the images in the gallery in any particular order?

  7. That’s a good question, logosgal. I thought they’d be in alpha order but that isn’t what’s happening. So honestly, I am not sure what logic the system is using to order everything.

  8. It kind of seems like it’s listing them in the order they won. Wasn’t the Capstan contest the first character contest we had? Or is my advanced age and general decrepitude making me misremember?

  9. Never mind. It WAS my age and decrepitude. The ones after Capstan don’t seem to be in the same order as the contests.
