HM3: Heavy Weapons update

Mark has recently sent me an update to the ItemRight-HeavyWeapons set. The numbering of the items has changed, so if you have a saved character using something from this set the odds are that when you load it, he or she won't be holding what they used to be holding. Such is life with an alpha product, I'm afraid, though I do apologize for the inconvenience. The items are all still there, they just have different "names" now.

  1. Sorry for the delay. These are harder to find reference art for. That and I’m trying to sell my house and move, so this section is taking me much longer than the Rifles did.

    There’s definitely more to come. There was a long list of requests for the Heavy Weapons section. I sent this update along so I can see how the shoulder-fired weapons work in the wild. I may need to revisit the way that I design them, and I wanted to start with just a couple before I had to re-do them all.

  2. The items look great and the 3/4 turn is awesome! The only snag I see is that there is no proper hand item to hold them. (not that I can see). Like a 3/4 turned hand. Better put out the dblade signal, na na na na na DBLADE!!

  6. Tool, ok, I found it — sorry about the confusion. I don’t have a time line on when it’ll get done but it’s “On the list”. I’ll go with the gun sword, I think it’ll be more widely applicable for more folks.

  7. Did anyone put out the dblade signal?

    Testing out a hand built as three pieces that can be used for holding weapons and such.
    Needs some refining but hopefully this will give you an idea on how it might work.

    Note: This hand is based on an existing hand in HM3 so I do not take full credit for its design.

    dblade (7) that absolutely rocks! That’s got to go in. I have made hands do a great many poses not initially available by masking items but this would offer a lot of flexibility and save a lot of work.

    I whole heartedly encourage any additional hand positions you have a hankerin to produce.

  9. @dblade – AWESOME! I would use a hand like that so often it ain’t funny.

    Ok, I’ve had a chance to experiment. I definitely need to scale things down just a wee bit. And I think I like what ams calls the 3/4 turn on the shoulder fired items. Problem is that they look bad in the default position.

    #A shows how the items should be positioned according to default HM policy.

    #B is my proposed default position for the shoulder-held items.

    #C shows that by adding an existing arm and a hand, the character can very easily be made to look like he is using the item in question. The only thing I had to rotate/move was the hand to achieve the picks in #C.

Love the new weapons, i think they will make a great addition, and if your making a list for some good heavy weapons i think a good howitzer like cannon, i know it its supposed to be ground based but if someone comes up with a “big” character then that could work, or even a machine character.

  13. Thanks Jeff, I didn’t want to bother you about it but I kept seeing other stuff being added so I thought I would wait for an opportunity to say something. When I saw the post on big weapons I figured I would give you a hollar. I noticed the other day that there is a sort of gun blade in the pistols already but Im sure you can make something cooler for me. Maybe even a rifle instead of a pistol or whatever. I use to love the final fantasy games. Well catch you later.

  14. Thanks, dblade! The 3 item separated hand looks like it would work very well. I’ll turn off the “Dblade signal” now so its cooled off for the next Heromachiner to use when they have an emergency.

  15. @dblade – Love the new three part hand. I don’t suppose you’d be able to do four more of those from four different angles would you? Back-side, thumb-side, pinky-side and Knuckle-side?
