Open Bragging Day

As I mentioned, I am currently out of town at my niece's wedding and thus, can't participate in an Open Critique Day today. We'll pick that up again next week.

In the meantime, though, I thought I'd instead make this an "Open Bragging Day", a chance for you to share one piece of art of which you are particularly proud. Show everyone your one "wow" piece that you think is a great example of what you try to do as a creator. Obviously (given the venue) it could be a HeroMachine character design, or you could scan/photograph a completely different piece and post it.

I'd like this to be a purely positive day for those willing to post. It's "Attaboy Friday", not a critique day, so try to think of something nice if you feel the urge to post a response.

Otherwise, put your artwork up and tell us why you're proud of it!

(Apologies to the WWE for using their logo. It's awesome, though.)

Here is a pencil drawing I made for a Vampire the Masquerade character back in high school. I think I did well with the shading but not so sure about the proportions.

Nice. I once played “star wars: battlefront 2” and took out an AT-AT while upside-down.

Here´s a dryad, an elemental creature of Wood, from my
homebrew fantasy world. She´s looking a bit grumpy at the moment
because it´s autumn where she is, i.e. “that time of the year” for
    dryads ;-).

Well, since I can’t decide witch is my favorite, I’ll just post all 3.

I finally got Vorna to a point where I’m satisfied, having remade her 5 times, it’s really nice to be able to work on her story without worrying about what she looks like (The story is another reason I’m proud of her).

  5. Captain Kicktar says:

Blah, please delete this and the previous one.

Captain Kicktar you’ve been working on Vorna for a while. I’m glad you’ve stuck to it.

  10. Anarchangel says:

I’m not sure if I’d call it my all time favorite but one that I’ve always liked is Sugar & Sin.

    http://forums.ugo.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=67706&d=1268706274

I had been working on these two since way back on HM 2.5 and could never really get them looking the way I wanted until I finally managed to pull this off.

  11. Anarchangel says:

I’ve also always like Red Devil, who is currently gracing the HM3 link up top for some reason.

  12. Tool says:

Great job anarchangel on 9 and 10.

I guess I’ll add something too

    http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee363/cameron_stanley_84/CREATURE.png

I had just got through looking at some stuff from papakrok and atomicpunk that day I think so I was feeling a little more beastly or dark I guess.

  13. Captain Kicktar says:

    So am I, MMI.

  14. Jadebrain says:

Here’s a grendemoth. I posted a picture of a grendemoth warrior a while ago; this one’s just an ordinary grendemoth, like a villager or something. The only thing I can think of for improvement would be the pose; it looks like the grendemoth should be holding something, but there’s nothing there. I think I was originally going for a different pose… I dunno. I know this is just a bragging rights day, but if anyone would care to critique, that would be nice.

  15. mashlagoo says:

I obviously didn’t create this charater. I just wanted to see if I could even make this in hero machine. I think it came out pretty good.

  16. SeanDavidRoss says:

For my entry here, I’m going to do something a little different: I’m going to post a link to an image made by somebody else. In this case, the image was made by Pesky:
    http://forums.ugo.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=77299&d=1304699972

Several people have made some great images based off of one of my HM3 posing studies/sketches (I’ve posted copies in my Album at the forums, but you’ll want to track down the originals). This one really stands out as the pose is quite dynamic and Pesky’s costuming choices worked surprisingly well with it. I never would have made this character, but it was made off of something I created, so I kind of feel like a proud Papa….

  17. ams says:

@ mashlagoo(15) Great job! And if you want to try anymore, (here it comes….) be my guest!

  18. ams says:

Here is one of my most recent images that I created, Sentinel. I really had fun coming up with this character and it was the first try at trying the pattern highlights to get the reflections off the metal. I thought he turned out great which inspired me to make a whole Canadian team.

I have three that I really want to share. The first one I
just got a commission for, so I might post that as well. His name
is Michael Alan Colt (shortened to MAC) and his nomme de guerre is
McKnight, the leader of my superhero team, which is actually works
in conjunction with local police departments. the heromachine

  21. mashlagoo says:

@ams(18) That is crazy good looking!

  22. Trekkie says:

I’ve been working on this one for a while before finally posting it on the forums just now. To fully appreciate the picture, try not to look at the feet too much, I think they look a bit odd.

    http://forums.ugo.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=77531&d=1305317399

  23. ams says:

That is a great composition, Trekkie. Try going a shade darker with your background items to promote depth and I think your bang on.

  24. Vampyrist says:

Mashlagoo, is that detective Lenny Briscoe.

I’ve posted what I consider to be my best work here before and I figure I’ll do it again. This image was inspired by a quote by Friedrich Nietzsche. “Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, for when one gazes into the abyss, the abyss gazes back at you.”

  25. Myro says:

I’m torn. I wish I could find something I was even close to as proud of as this, but I’ve already put Succubus up on here twice (including my profile page).

Still though, I got insane when it came to details on this one, and as crazy good as I thought this would look when I thought of the idea, it turned out way better when I finished it.

Neon Sequitur (27): I love that the parrot has a bubble helmet. That’s a humorous detail that probably never would have occurred to me.

    A couple of my personal faves… Kwan-Li =====
    http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff31/synnersaint/Roleplay/Kwan_Licopy.jpg
Kwan-Li Sung is my character from our Anima campaign, he’s a
Technician (Warrior with Ki powers) he has a particular affinity
for energy and lightning. The picture was done in HM3 (obviously!)
I added the border in Photoshop to pad it out to print on A4. Rafe

Rafe V’Shaar is a Vargr (genetically uplifted dogs) from our
Traveller Campaign. I used the werewolf head Jeff published a
little while back (Thanks Jeff!) and again the border’s were done
in Photoshop I also used Photoshop to smooth out the hilt of his
sword and the stock of his shotgun in the first picture.

I submitted him for a previous contest, but I definitely think my redo of AA Spitz is the best character I ever did. Thanks to the original designer of the character on HM2 for giving me the springboard.

After some hesitation, I decided to put my own work here. I
hesitate because while I think it’s very good for me, I’ve seen
many others that are more talented with the Hero Machine software
than I’ll ever be. That said, it was a pain to get him to look how
I wanted, and the fact that after a few years I think I’ve come
very close, I think it’s worth my bragging a little. Head shot:

To 26 Mcknight57. It kinda looks like what conan o’brian would look like as a celtic warrior. I like your work but that hair always makes me think of him when I go through the items lol.

  38. McKnight57 says:

Tool (40): Thanks, but that’s the look I was going for. I know I might need to change it though. Let me take a crack at it and repost.

As i make a tutorial about profile face i have a idea for a story and finish it. I named it ghost flights.
It´s a little bit mixture from red and east indian i think.
The believe on a guardian spitit, a companion that follow a person his whole life. I find not good background for that but wth the rest of it i am happy.

  42. MartianBlue says:

    @Captain Kicktar preciate it friend.

@Imp, that is pretty cool. Out of pure curiosity how do you go about making these maps? Do you use actual maps as a base? or …

  43. Aaron says:

At imp (37) very goood map how you do it?

  44. The Imp says:

@MB & Aaron: thanks! They’re done almost purely in photoshop, drawing everything from the coast outline up. Sometimes I’ll use opensource mountain or tree icons that other folks have done, but I try to stay wholly original. A couple of them use bits and pieces of actual our-world coastline in various places.

Not to pimp another site unnecessarily, but if you’re interested in learning, visit http://www.cartographersguild.com ; they’ve got all kinds of tutorials and hints.

  45. Me, Myself & I says:

Nicely done Imp. That really caught my eye. I’ve mostly made hand drawn maps (with one exception inpaint) which turned out fairly well.

  46. Myro says:

I know I already posted yesterday, but I spent some time sketching my main character Fluke last night.

It’s flawed, but since I haven’t made much time to try to draw anything for some time, I’m happy with how it turned out. If I’m really good, I’ll try to work on sketching more often.

The first is more-medieval-hero with his girl

The second is a handmade sketch for Mortal Kombat-like concept…!! and I’m very proud of it!

  49. Tool says:

    53. 3pleX, I like the battle suit, it’s pretty cool. It almost reminds me of something like the ones off of the matrix. I was thinking about how to make a mobile suit the other day but I have been busy lately so Ive decided to slow down and take a break from creating for a while and just view and comment.

  50. Me, Myself & I says:

Neet sketch Myro (51) I think you got the basics down for this character. You know Heromachine has an APP for that (the cloverleaf that is; hint, hint). I’d like to see that same character made with Heromachine.
