Perhaps this is a silly question but I am not familiar with the Friday night fights, what are they? Is it still being done?

  2. FNF is listed under “Blog Categories”. These are usually match-ups of characters in fantasy teams, sometimes user submissions based on the theme (like the Character Contests). Winners are decided by popular vote. Jeff hasn’t hosted FNF for awHile.

As for SOD 191, the clasp is too off center. Not from the perspective of angle, but almost like it was sewn on wrong.

Jeff has run Four Major Character Contests Since Starting this blog

    1) A general open character contest anything goes. The Prize was a custom color Illustration of anything (within reason ) the Winner Wanted. WINNER: Scorpidius

    2) A Patriotic Hero Contest where the character could be from any Country but had to be clearly Patriotically themed for that country. The Prize once again a Custom Colored Illustration of the Winners choice ( Within Reason ). WINNER: Kaldath

( Here is my prize for that one btw; http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll49/Kaldath/kaldath-salara-color2.jpg )

    3) Modern Warrior HM Mini Contest. Entrants were to create character using the Heromachine Modern Warriors Mini that represented a “Modern Warrior”, The Winner had his character turned into a Video Game by UGO. Winner: I forget Perhaps Jeff can remind us.

    4) Friday Night Fights. This was a four round elimination contest with each round having a different theme. Entrants were paired off each week for four week with the community voting for which of the pair in each pairing they liked until only one person was left standing. Winner Got a Custom Color Illustration of Choice (within Reason) and the Runner up got a Custom black and white illustration of choice ( within reason ). WINNER: Kaldath – Runner Up: Imp

Good rundown Kaldath. Just to clarify, I didn’t really run the Modern Warrior contest, that was administered by UGO and whoever sponsored the event in the first place. Which is a long way of saying I can’t remember who won it even though I think I got to be one of the handful of judges.

I used to award a custom black and white character illustration as the prize for every contest when I was coding HM3, because I wanted to be sure I kept my hand in drawing. So the “big” prize for the major contests was to get a full drawing in color.

But when I started drawing items for HM3, I didn’t have the creative energy to ALSO do a character illustration each week, particularly as the requests seemed to grow ever more complex and time-intensive. So I switched to the “get an item” prize. That made it possible to award custom character sketches for the “major” contests, the biggest of which was the FNF stuff.

I’ll run FNF again some time soon. It was just a biggie, and so I don’t want to make it seem “ordinary” by running it every month or whatnot.

Also, I think you’re right about the clasp, Punk, I went ahead and redrew it.

  6. Jake says:

I’m looking forward to the next FNF contest. I didn’t participate in the last one and I would like to this time.

Thank you for the explanation. I wish I was around back then.
