Captain Medusa Herring – tabaxi swashbuckler rogue
I came up with this character just this past weekend, and once I finished with Rhojhan I decided to see what I could put together for her design. I had some basic concepts in mind, and then it was a matter of poking around the available items and picking out things I liked. Considering that I basically had one furry body object to work with, the body elements came together quite well. (I did have to use a non-furry hand to hold the rapier, because arms don’t bend that way, but it’s not like you can tell the difference.) Fun fact: Her muffin top is made of a leg and two shoulders.

To hear her tell it, Medusa is an enterprising pirate captain who left home in search of adventure and fortune and would still be living the high life on the open seas if she hadn’t been swindled out of her ship and deserted by her good-for-nothing crew. What she wouldn’t tell you is that she was run out of her home for stealing from pretty much everybody, and she lost her ship and crew after trying to swindle a hag (which is never a good idea). So until her fortunes turn back around, she’s living the wanderer’s life, taking what she can get (away with) and letting her bad reputation do (most of) the talking.
And rounding out the original six All-Stars is the Star: James Solus was an ordinary man, until, one day, a meteorite crashed into him. He was presumed dead, until he emerged from the wreckage a few hours, dazed, but with not even a scratch on him. After that, he could fly, and had super strength, super speed, and super endurance. When the All-Stars found the fountain of youth in the sixties, only he and Father Time didn’t drink (Father Time didn’t drink because he knew that simply traveling through time meant he could show up at any time in the future anyway (though he later drank from the fountain when he was in his seventies) and the Star didn’t drink because he believed the fountain to be going against the natural way of life). He fought crime until the mid-nineties, when he decided to retire in Florida. He died in 2016 at the age of 94 due to old age.
Continuing the original All-Stars, Riptide: Alan Atlantic was a swimmer. One day, while swimming, he nearly drowned. However, he was saved by a dolphin, who granted him magic powers to control and conjure water (it’s not quite the weirdest superhero origin story). Basically, he can control water, and breathe underwater. He was killed in combat in the fight that caused the All-Stars to break up. Though the four remaining team members ended up beating the villain, they began doubting themselves, and infighting amongst the group had gotten worse.
Here is Father Time’s original look.
