'Minecraft' Gets its Own Official Monthly Swag Box Monthly subscription boxes are a fascinating idea subscriptions are paid for by subscribers to receive items such as T-shirts, toys such as makeup or food items that they don't have a choice over. Companies like Loot Crate, Fancy, Graze and Dollar Shave Club all utilise the model, but there's a new entrant on the scene: Mojang. This is right, Minecraft now has its own swag box. Go with the flow Go with the flow For $30 a month, Mojang says it will send its subscribers a special "Mine Chest" full of "hand-picked official Minecraft items." Although the exact contents are not yet known, the company promises customers to receive a t-shirt, crafting recipe and other collectibles each month. MineCon 2015 saw the unveiling of the Mine Chest for the first time. Mojang made 5,000 beta keys available to attendees to secure the first boxes, but now it's opening to all. Although it's the ideal present for anyone who is a Minecraft player however, it comes with a few stipulations. Mojang first requires subscribers to select a monthly subscription. The plan is charged in advance and shipments won't begin until the month of May. The company claims that paying upfront will allow it to better serve customers by buying more expensive items in larger quantities to drive costs down. Each month, a Mine Chest will be charged $7 shipping. Additionally, Mine Chests are currently only available in the US. Mojang blames high shipping costs for its exclusivity, but claims it is "working very hard" to bring them down and increase availability. ntzsw8
