    Phase two and three are phenomenally perfect JR. Lock em in. Would still like to find a way to use, I think it was prswirve’s heavies from a few pages back, maybe a bit of tweaking with colour and helmet and we are away.

    I still want to play around with phase one just a touch, will see if I have time for it today, I forgot to email myself the one I was working on so it’s locked down on my work comp, back in there tomorrow night.

    As for the nano-hugger things, I think it would be a bit of both. The way I see it it’ll be more of a back of the head hugger, maybe three independent fast crawlers, one jumps up and inserts itself at the base of the skull, with little arms that wrap around the head, covering and replacing the eyes, with two more arms that wrap around the jaw and rip it back. Horrific, but you know. So its the upper skull, maybe a couple more arms to wrap the neck. From there I think the next two in the unit take arms and legs, and either work over them or tear them right out and transform into temporary replacements. Thinking almost the thickness of bone, to really give that zombie robot sort of look. Maybe something which throws out the internal organs as well. Basically it’s just trying to preserve the brain.

    And on the note of expendibility, aside from writing in some big hitting payrolling political theory, I’d say this zombie stage in tentative, mass production allows them to be semi expendible, but their true purpose in this state is a mid point, they should be able to defend themselves, but their own priority is to return to what could be a bigger vehicle than the warships – a factory ship. There their construction is completed.

    Essentially, the huggers (we need a new name) are a virus, so they’d be unleashed on a population to take up as many of the locals and bring them back to convert into willing followers. Religion 4.0.

    I’d still like to have a crack at the Warships, and have a walker I’m working on at the moment. That and I think the troops need a helmet, as an option, but that could be a phase two thing. All of these will of course be based around or influenced by your amazing ideas. Particularly the troop, my god. My only thing is i think for the first phase that damages and scarring, particularly to the face need to be toned back, mostly for narrative purposes. With each phase the troops become less and less human.

    Also colour, I feel, as this is complex and because I feel it fits the theme, I think that as much as we can a muted grayscale might make things easier and look pretty effective. I’m not thinking totally, but lots of silhouettes and such, and whenever colour is required for that frame you make it the champion. For instance, in the Henare thread, the frame for stabbing his superior in the back would be perhaps the black figure of Henare, behind a line drawn superior, on a grey background but with a blazing orange blade protruding.

    Not to say we can’t have colour and zyping in the full page spreads, but yeah. I don’t know, might be a bit too blatantly Millar, but yeah.

    Outside of that like the idea of liners, shaders and colourers. Deff need prswirve as a liner, looking at some of the poses he churns out!

    I like your second idea, that’s a good plan. I think we should try where possible to keep it HM though, I mean, anyone can make a comic using other means, but this is what this forum is all about

    Agreed. How do you reckon we approach this then? Certainly a new thread. Maybe we try do them sequentially, so people go through and say I’ll do panel 4, ok I’ll do 5 etc? Then post in order? Or people handle a page each? Will be slow going, but so cool. Definitely a multi-media extravaganza

    The whole hand seperation thing was inspired by this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcSQ943wLOQ espesh around the 2:50 mark.

    But yeah know what you mean, hard to make convincing.

    Way I see it, there is a bit of variation, some have melee weapons, others can use it as a back up blaster, moving parts that can strengthen the joints for punching, things like that

    That looks cool JR, one revision I would make is the lazery glow perhaps being orange, to keep in line with their energy beams etc? Perhaps a couple of these ideas can be fused, I love Alex’s steel sky idea!

    Oh yeah, sorry about the rookie mistake with the code thing. It’s on my work computer unfort so will need to repost that tomorrow.

    Oh and Alex, like what you did with your entry, I’m happy for your character to have opinions on the other characters, if anyone is uncomfortable, which I doubt, it’s easily written off as misperception, so all good. If you like, I would actually like to see Reapers opinion on Xiao Tou and so forth, and I think, if you have other ideas floating around, there is potential to do a little synopsis on characters not yet created, and if anyone likes the sound of how you personify them they could choose to write an entry for them, etc? Good way to inspire those who mightn’t have come up with something, and also pad out our dramatis personae

    I plan on writing from the perspective of one of the higher ups in Ascension, so the realization of rogue troopers seeking pleasure women could actually be picked up on, and castration noted as a future ‘revision’ to keep the troops in line. After all, plot wise we are starting from what is initially an army of cobbled together mercenaries who seek mostly money. As the story progresses, Ascension do away with the human aspects, good or bad, and begin to harvest a completely obedient, soul-less horde with no free will.

    By the way, JR, that’s absolutely perfect. That’s basically what I had in my mind too. I kind of like the painkiller idea, would explain why they are muted to to massacre at their hands.

    On prswirve’s timeline idea, I actually think, while I’m not rooting for it, that there is no reason the timeline could take place over years, the nature of our entries lends itself slightly to that, there is no reason we can’t have a post dated December 2014 which briefly mentions what’s happened in the past while talking about a specific campaign in that time. The gap in time can be fleshed out by another author etc. Personally, I do see the robotic uprising as a major event, the Hong Kong portion could only be weeks, but Mainland China would be months, then there is room for expansion. As Ascension becomes more and more aggravated with the vessels, and with access to an immutable army (via facehugger type tech) then they start going after the home nations of the protagonists. Nuclear strikes anyone?

    It becoming a global affair justifies prswirve’s end of the war entry. Which by the way is really nice, and I love the last line. But also dude, lol, it’s very, um “Then they did some things and the war was over. The end.” If it could be amended to a sort of “She did her part, but it was not enough” type of role that would be good. But not as keen on the idea of droid-army shield generators. Taking out a ship like that, which I see as more of a troop transport and vehicle carrier would be a blow, but there are heaps where that came from i’d say

    On that note, anyone want a crack at designing those.

    CONTEST ONE: The Invasion Craft

    I’d like to think yeah, flying, bigger than an aircraft carrier, but not quite kilometeres long or anything like that. Hulking. Along the lines of a star destroyer, crossed with a reaper from Mass Effect, which is essentially my unimaginative mind crossing the two ultimate invasion craft cliches, but we can see what you come up with.

    Further to the costume part, you’re right. It would be interesting to have a gritty theme on it though, stealing the armor of troops they manage to put down, and then painting them a distinctive shade, roughly, as protection slash intimidation.

    Vampy, while that sounds like a good idea, I’m not sure if it will cut down on the fluidity and the ability for people to feel like they’re shaping it as well, if you get what I mean. Though yeah having an outline would work if it was perhaps major events, and vagueish.

    As I see it

    Invasion
    Discovery of Powers
    Taking a stab at picking off Troops/Testing powers
    Forming a resistance
    Fighting Back
    Getting Asses Kicked
    Travelling to Macau to enlist the help of the Triad
    Jumping through hoops for the Triad boss
    Some battles
    Chasing the fleet through the mainland
    Facing off against and joining up with the Red Hand or whatever I called them
    Getting superhero costumes, yeah!

    and so on. The gaps in between can be filled by the participants and all that.

    Oh, quick character idea if something wants to use it. The Machinist – someone who can manipulate elements to forge weapons and armor and so forth primarily, but also with the ability to say, touch his finger against the chest of an enemy trooper and force the armor around that point to contort like an arrow and pierce through his chest. Or something. Sorry, thinking out loud.

    I appreciate that you actually went to the effort to map it and all.

    I imagine it would be easy enough to rectify. The Chinese utilized an underground railroad to make an exit through Hong Kong during the revolution, it’s not too much of a leap to assume these tunnels still exist. It’s fiction, we could argue they link up, perhaps intersect with the MTR tunnels in places, and form a passage from the mainland, through the new territories, Kowloon, the Harbour and make landfall (or sea fall) in Stanley, as an escape route. That and the Japanese occupation during WWII. WWII loves tunnels. It’ll be sweet. And the Rescuer, being assumedly Triad, would probable be best equipped to know of and navigate these tunnels.

    Which could pose a couple of interesting plot points. I didn’t see the story spending too much time underground, but it has a nice little ‘viva le resistance’ ring to it. Let’s roll with it.
