On February 11th, one of my favorite recent item choices to work up went entered only by me. Since I’m judging, I obviously can’t enter. I really would like to see other peoples’ ideas for these three. To close Sat, 8 pm and to receive judging approximately 8 pm Sunday. (5 hours extra since it seemed to be hard, extra day for judging because I imagine close judging) [/quote]

    Sometimes criticism isn’t really welcome . . .

    Backstory score: ………………..G4……K4

    Bkgd score:…………………………G2…..K4

    Item HORIZ POCKET TOP:..G5…….K5

    Item SASH POCKET TOP: ….G5……K3

    Item ARM GUARD TOP: ……G5…….K2

    Bells: ………………….G2…….K4

    Whistles: …………….G2……..K2

    Items-story:…………G5……..K4

    Emotional:…………..G4…….K4

Two good entries. Geno and Keric both did well. Scoring went as follows:

Neither entry had a blurb, per se, but both of them had enough story content obvious and present, that they both got a high score for backstory. Geno did a minimalist background, but I had to give him double credit on the notion that austerity made sense. Keric obviously put some work in and positioned the background pieces in a good way–in my opinion, it seems to indicate the room and it’s occupants are there by situation and not design (evocative.)

For emotional content, both pieces were very successful overall, and Keric probably would have scored as high there if a blurb had explained the garment choices. Both pieces ‘talked’ about characters, events, and situations not shown within the pictures.

In the Bells and Whistles category, neither entrant did highlighting, shading, or shadows, but both did expressive hand-positioning. Geno’s lighting effects were good. Keric scored higher there because he did a lot more contextual and story-suggestive positioning.

Now for the items: Keric’s top as a planter was great. Arm guards as shin guards was fair. The sash top scored higher than fair because it was obviously work to make it fit as well as it did.

Geno’s item choices were all great. I don’t think I’ve seen a mech plant here on heromachine.

    Geno 34, Keric 32.

Great work, guys! Geno, pick your 3!

Thank you! It’s got big sharp, pointy teeth! I did a warrior bunny named Hastings at the end of my Very Crosse Knight postings. They’re fun.

I went all in one subcategory for the 3 items this time. You all should have fun with them . . .

Despite tradition, a bolt in the leg aimed by any competent hunter is enough to make a man bleed out. So, likely, jumping in to fight, Kaaxth could get in one blow before he goes unconscious. She could just retreat and wait. The interesting thing is whether he’ll think to fake it to get her close and whether she’d fall for it in time to matter.

You’ve made mechs, boddities, and humans. Why don’t you make a piratical six-armed shadowcat?

Thanx! I frequently don’t add a new post these days, just add on to others. That one didn’t appeal to the judge enough or I broke a submission rule somehow. It was fun to figure out that move, even if I overstretched a tenta uh, leg.

    Moving on!

This one I had trouble with exporting and repeated crashes, so didn’t complete in time for the secret identity contest. Still not happy with it. Needs work.

In the Egyptian way of thinking, reincarnation as a lower species could be a punishment. So . . . who was punishing the WHOLE EGYPTIAN PANTHEON BY SWAPPING OUT THEIR HEADS FOR ANIMAL HEADS? For that matter, what were the heads used for? The only quality dead human heads have differently than most animal species is that they’re ROUNDER.

Examine plate 467A for the answer.

Rrrrrrmmmm. I seem to be. Peculiar thing is that is crashes more often during ‘peak internet use times.’ Also, I seem to be able to make it happen less by not letting the cursor stay still for too long . . . ?

@DCGirl: You’ll have to build any insignia not found in the massive category. Basic shapes found in Shapes, Tech, Standard go a long way.

@TGG: JR, above, describes masking. There are some tutorials around, too. Use masking to “clip” an arm overlay in the color you want or build a sleeve out of pieces, including those found in Tops. Or add a shoulder pad from the Shoulder categories?

MMmmmmrmm . . . bow girl’s legs seem slightly mismatched in length. I’m guessing you want their knees about the same height, with a little of the top of a boot showing from her right foot. Look at a couple of walking poses online to see what I mean.

    Backstory suggestion:

Hyweb walked carefully, avoiding dry sticks. Her bow poised to fire, she reflected on the near murder that happened less than an hour before. She had almost shot the good tree Yunna behind Gwessa. Yunna would surely have bled her lifesap and died in minutes.

It was hard to tell the difference between the good and bad trees in the moonlight. Gwessa had yanked up her roots and rolled downhill out of range, shattering Yunna’s saplings and leaving Hyweb to console her.

    This hunt was getting personal.

An honest-to-goodness FBI agent? To see Farmer Jenkins? Well he told me he was out of town for a month, but I guess he stayed on account of that thunderclapper strikin’ his barn. Thought I saw his pickup goin’ the night before, but, y’know, now’s I think about it, he prob’ly parked it in the barn to stand on. To help reach, right? He fixed his barn, installed the new sprinklers, painted everything all in a WEEK, if y’ can believe that. –What? No, I cain’t read your badge, son; broke ma glasses last year. I just string beans and sets here while the family comes and goes. Yessir, I saw ol’ Jenkins out there finishin’ up somethin’ coupla days ago. All that work musta done him in. Clothes don’t fit him right anymore. Walks stiff too.

I tell ya what, his tomatoes grew up real fast–odd shade of green, though. And eight foot tall vines if I’m six. That’s right!
