Hot shot defense attorney Jim Reynolds had it all; an unmatched winning streak, a hefty paycheck, and a beautiful new wife. The main reason for Jim’s success was that he was known in the mafia underground as the lawyer who would represent anyone as long as the price was right. He had no problem representing known mob bosses and their people. But when one of these bosses had Jim’s wife killed, he decided to turn aside from his corruption and begin a life defending the innocent from those who he once fought for. His first act was to quit the mega-firm he represented and work for the city as a public defender. But then he discovered an incredible family secret; his father had been the golden age hero Chief Justice. The old man bequeathed Jim with the one thing he had kept from his heroing days – a helmet forged from ultranium, the hardest metal on Earth. Jim put together a costume and took to the streets with a bo as Defender. Not long after, he formed the super team the Defenders.
