Genetic science company Genetech began a campaign looking into the possibility of combining human and animal DNA to create hybrid species. They were famous for offering huge sums of money for those willing to undergo experimental treatments. Not all of the trials were successful, but the ones that were became the half-animal group known as the Animutants.
Because he was already large, Logan was chosen to receive bull DNA. His transformation left him as a hulking, horned beast.
