Gang member Damien was on death row for the murder of countless people in Caligo. Considered one of the most heartless men in American history, he had no fear of his impending death. But just a weak before he was scheduled to die, Damien was broken out of prison and brought to the secret headquarters of the shady organization known as the Sphinx Foundation. In exchange for his freedom, Damien agreed to undergo a surgery that grafted four large metal spider-like limbs onto his back, and his own body’s physical strength was heightened so as to be able to carry the extra weight. When the ordeal was over, Damien emerged anew as the Brown Recluse, and has been working as an agent of Sphinx ever since.
