The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. Please keep all submissions PG13: full or partial nudity is prohibited. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warning. Only post characters that have been created solely using Hero Machine, and that you know for certain have never been entered in a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.
All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine :,ImageShack, Deviant Art or whatever);Do not use Photobucket.
- Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
- No copyrighted characters please – they will be deleted.
- Please name your filesas [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.
Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this).
This contest will close at 9am Eastern on Sunday January 28h

Nottingham, Connecticut (don’t ask why I chose Connecticut. I don’t know) is the largest city in America (in this universe). The city is infamous for its corruption, high crime rate (especially in the poor Sherwood area of the city), and extremely large income divide between rich and poor. The city is practically run by mob boss Jonathan Kingsley. Franklin Robins was born wealthy, but soon became infuriated by the injustice in his city, and decided to relocate to Sherwood and become the vigilante archer “Robin Hood,” aided by his team of “Merry Men” (John Little aka “Little John,” William Smith aka “Will Scarlet,” Alan Daley aka “The Bard (and the only member with superpowers, as his guitar shoots bursts of sonic energy), and Gilbert Whitford aka “The White Hand”). Note: All of the Merry Men are skilled with various tactics and weapons, even if they are not pictured using those specific skills.

Perhaps because of a certain Yankee, whom legend (okay, a Mark Twain story) had visit King Arthur’s Court? 😀

Years later, Little John would look back on his first meeting with Robin, and think that maybe he had been a little rough on him. But hey, he did get over the concussion rather quickly, and besides that, what kind of fool brings a quarterstaff to a street fight.
My entry is not only modernized, but gender-swapped: Will Scarlet becomes Scarlett Wills, archer and songstress.

But I really should have given a bit more of her background. Scarlett, you see, is a third generation superhero, being the daughter of America’s first success from its WWII-era super-soldier program. Herbert Wills was known as the Myrmidon, taking his name from the project that had transformed him. Here he is in his original OSS military uniform, and his more colorful later civilian outfit:

Scarlett’s outfit harkens back to her grandfather’s. Her use of the OSS spearhead logo is controversial, but given that the OSS is long past, understandable.
There are other “Merry Men” in her band of third gens, but I’ve been short on time, so for the nonce, she stands alone.
Contest closed. Results posted shortly.
Even though they’re too late for the contest, here are Scarlet’s teammates:

We have Scarlet, Tuck, Robin and Little John. I scrambled the mapping of names to specialties, just because.
Great job!
