Character Design Challenge #344 – What’s In A Name?

Your challenge this week is to create a character using HM3 based on the character name I provide. You can interpret them as either a hero or a villain and as a male or female. Your choice.

The name you are working with this week is Red Halo.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. Please keep all submissions PG13: full or partial nudity is prohibited. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warning. Only post characters that have been created solely using Hero Machine, and that you know for certain have never been entered in a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine :,ImageShackDeviantArt, or whatever - Please do not use Photobucket);

  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • Please name your filesas [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.

Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this). *

This contest will close on Sunday, November 12th at 9:00am Eastern.

    Entry #4

    Red Halo
    Brendan O’Dearg

    was a kind farmer who helped a wounded bird. He fed it and nursed it back to health then released.
    At dusk on Midsummer as the sun was setting and the full moon rose
    he was taken into a wild wood, across a peat bog to a steep green hill. The mound was surounded by a clear stream. He crossed the rock bridge and went to an ancient Hawthorn tree, 45 feet tall, which stood on the top of the hill thick dark brown trunk was almost 9 feet in girth with vertical orange cracks. The dark green canapy was wild and untamed yet had a profusion of delicately fragrant white 5 petal blossoms each with a number of tiny red stamens with an occasional bees and butterflies buzzing fom one blossom to another. Shorp thorns approximately half an inch long were also quite evident and wicked looking. The tree gave a feeling of being as ancient as time itself. It was also evident that among the thorns and white blossoms were various colored ribbons tied on the branches. They appared to have writing on them. There at the base of the tree stood a small dolman of three stones, two upright and one laid across the two into a small altar. On it was a profusions of gifts: a glass vase of daffodils, roses in a terracotta pot, a caramnic vase of purple tulips,a basket of pink tulips. There was also sketches of fairies and leprechauns, coins, crystals and stones, burned candles and incense.
    There was also offerings of fresh milk, baskets of apples, berries, pans of bread with fresh butter and honey, baked pies and cobblers, jars of Hawthorn jellies, jams, and syrups, as well as haawthorn wine and brandy
    A doorway opened from the tree and beings of unearthly beaty and majesty came forth to gather the gifts. As they collected the offereings one noticed Brendan and smiled and he was becomed forth and invited inside. He follwed the Sidhe into a glittering hall amid the sound of etherial Celtic music into a great room where the Sidhe Lord waited a crown of twigs and thorns upon his brown and a cloak of feathers hanging from his shoulders down the the floor.. The Sidhe Lord admitted to Brandon he had been the bird Brendan had once been so kind to, and he was now repaying the kindness.
    Brendan was given a goblet of Hawthorn berries and leaves. Upon drinking
    it Brendan felt sleepy and he began to see auras of red halos as he drifted off. When he woke he was back outside the fairy mound beyond the peat bog.

    Brendan soon discover that he now possesd the gift of Glamour
    capable of priducing red halos of Force Blasts and Sheilds from his hands
    as well as
    Light: ranging from a glow to a blinding searing light
    Heat: from warming to metal melting
    and Healing: wounds and diseases
