Character Design Challenge #329 – Bite Me!

Your CDC this week is to create an original vampire character.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. Please keep all submissions PG13: full or partial nudity is prohibited. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warning. Only post characters that have been created solely using Hero Machine, and that you know for certain have never been entered in a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine :,ImageShackPhotoBucket, or whatever);

  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • Please name your filesas [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.

Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this).

This contest will close on Sunday, July 16th at 9:00am Eastern.

Victoria Lewis is one of a small number of people world wide who are born with an innate psychic ability, known as Espers. These people, around 0.0001% of the population, have abilities ranging from minor mind control to a full house of Telepathy, Telekinesis, Mind Control and Precognition. The power of these psychic abilities is measured on a scale of 1 to 6 (1 being minor, 6 being potentially severely dangerous). Victoria is a level 3 telekinetic, able to lift objects up to her own body weight off of the ground without touching them. This alone would make her a person of interest to many agencies around the world. However, here Esper abilities are not the only interesting thing about Victoria. In her early twenties, she contracted the Vampirism Virus and now her psychic powers are both augmented and tempered by the effects of the condition. This has made her a fascinating case study in both the effects of the virus and how an Espers abilities are affected by such a condition, as is it common knowledge amongst those who deal with such affairs that Espers have immense mental resilience and Victoria has yet to succumb to the viruses influence over her mind. Victoria now struggles with living a normal life whilst also living with her vampiric condition.

Vampirism (excerpt taken from the International Medical Journal. 15th Edition)
Vampirism, like Lycanthropy (see page 89), has long been considered a supernatural phenomenon. However, recent advances in medicine have shown that neither affliction are caused by supernatural means. Whilst Lycanthropy is genetic, Vampirism has been discovered to be an advanced mutation of the Rabies virus. It is contracted in much the same way as a normal Rabies virus, through a bite to the victim. The first symptoms are a change in the pigmentation of the iris, taking on a more reddish hue, and the growth of the canine teeth. The victim soon becomes unable to digest anything but raw red meat and develops a high sensitivity to UV rays and certain chemicals, most notably those produced by the Allium genus of plant (the genus that contains all members of the Onion family, such as Garlic). Last negative symptom to show in victims, is a loss of mental stability, most commonly a loss of empathy and sudden violent rages. It is at this stage that the sufferer will develop the urge to pass on the virus and find a victim to bite. The most common area for bites to be administered is around the neck, however this could be due to cultural influences (from movies and such) rather than a natural instinct. The most interesting aspect of this form of Rabies is that, unlike all other viruses, it actually has positive symptoms. The virus actively keeps its victim alive, increasing their cell regeneration rather than stunting it, so as to give the appearance of the victim aging at a much slower rate than normal, and having a much faster healing rate than a normal human. It also increases the production of adrenaline when in a high pressure situation, giving the victim a further boost to their physical strength and ability to react to stimuli than a normal adrenaline rush would.

Little is known about the vampire noble named “The Chained Lady”. Most people think of her as an urban legend, no more than a story told next to the campfire, but then again- most people think that way about all vampires.
But even among the vampires themselves, only the high nobility know the true story of Sheerina, or The Chained Lady as she is known today. Once, she was a vampire noble. but her bloodline was impure. A demon deceived her mother into thinking he is a vampire too, and the fruit of their relationship wad Sheerina, a gluttony vampire who couldn’t, ever, control her own hunger.
She fed off humans and vampires alike, she was fierce, fast, strong and cunning. And in the end, the children of night had to do something. Using forbidden magic, they killed the mother and forged a cursed chain from her blood. Then, they caught Sheerina, sacrificing many vampires to do so, and so… The Chained Lady was born.

Wrapped in cursed chains which do not allow her to harm a living soul, Sheerina learned to live her life forever hungry. And yet, the chains are keeping her alive. She can only gain food through other vampires, and hunters don’t like to share their prey. She had to learn her way with words, to learn how to make the other vampires do as she wants without hurting, or physically threatening them, and ironically, it just made her even more dangerous.

This is not based on any kind of vampire story. Also, I do not believe in vampires, if that’s what you are thinking.
Millennia ago, the first vampire was born. He was not a human, as humans were not around yet. In truth, it is not known what this vampire was. Either way, much, much later, the first human vampire was born. The first, and certainly not the last.
Once again, all of these details are unknown, so let us fast forward several centuries to what is known. There was a man living somewhere in modern day Romania. He was a vampire. I say living rather than from, for he was not definitely born there. His country of origin is not known. Because vampires are immortal, his age is unknown also. One day, a Transylvanian nobleman saw something out of the corner of his eye. A bat. This bat revealed its true form: the vampire, and bit the count.
Thus began the history of vampirism in modern-day southeastern Europe.
Around this time, vampire hunting began, and most vampires, being commoners, were rather unintelligent, and made fools of themselves, and were easy to hunt. The nobles, however, were intelligent, and far harder to kill.
The vampires of noble blood worked as a unit. However, when their leader, Count Dracula*, was killed they scattered throughout the globe. Some landed in the future United States.
In the 1770s, the British Colonies in America were on the verge of war with Britain. While many men supported independence, many, especially the wealthy, did not. One such man was Christopher Wilson from Massachusetts.
Due to his loyalty to the British throne, many hated Wilson. Shortly after war began, he was riding home from Boston through the countryside in a carriage. The carriage was attacked, killing the driver and the horses and destroying the carriage. Wilson survived. He began walking, though he did not know which way to go. Part way through his way home, he felt something fly past him. When it came around a second time, Wilson saw it was a bat. The third time, the bat showed his true form. It was a vampire, one of the old European noblemen. Wilson was bitten, becoming a vampire. He was never found by vampire hunters, and still wanders New England to this day

*A book was written about the late count by Bram Stoker, but his work was set a few centuries too late.

    Entry #1: Amorie

Here’s a non-traditional entry for a vampire character. My second entry will follow the typical expectations of a vampire.

Amorie is a vampiric succubus spawned from the frozen plains of hell. Among her powers are supernatural seduction, levitation, healing and living off of drinking blood, vocal mimicry, and she can take the form of a black-haired human woman. As far as appearances go her real form is a four-winged, horned woman with bluish-lavender finely scaled skin, and a thin tipped tail.

Personality wise she is witty and sadistic. She preys upon both male and female humans often pulling cruel “pranks” on them before feeding. These pranks often include extreme public humiliation, torture, and even the loss of a loved one.

Occi is a vampire from Mexico. He was born in 1519 to an Aztec tribe. The tribe was peaceful. Occi is a man that doesn’t hurt animals or his own kind. He respects the good people of the world but despises the evil. He can turn into a Vampire bat and was made a Vampire when he was 68. He became a vampire when the Mayan god, Camazotz, told him he could cure an illness that he had. Occi, wanting to be there for his 3 generations of familiy, accepted Camazotz`s deal not knowing it would turn him into a vampire with immortallity. Occi spends his days roaming the North American deserts. He does this to find peace in himself but when he sees anyone in danger he is not afraid to kill. `The greater good` makes Occi`s mind up for him, even if it means taking someone else`s life. His real name is “Tlazopilli”, meaning “precious noble”. He changed his name to “Occiditsolquasidesertum” after hearing the new inhabitants of America speak latin. This name comes from Latin and means “Kills like the desert sun”. He shortened his name to Occi.

Long ago a sorcerer, in trying to attain greater power, summoned a demon from the depths of hell. Little did the sorcerer realize that this demon, Zixel the Craven, was more powerful than he could handle. Zixel took the sorcerer as his host, needing a body to live on this plane. He also required sustenance: blood. Most of his victims are drained to dried husks, but once he was attacked during a feeding, interrupting him and leaving his meal alive. That person was forever transformed by the blood that fell from the demon and mixed with his own. Zixel’s Children, as they called themselves, grew in number over the centuries, kept alive by feeding the demon’s blood in them the blood of others. Zixel himself delights in this unholy family, though he himself must find new hosts periodically as his power is too great and burns out the bodies he inhabits. His children are more than happy to assist him in this, showing him great reverence as the ‘father’ of their race.

    Entry #1
    Justin Case
    both vampire and vampire hunter.

I’ve had this character concept since highschool, and have a lot more story tof Justin Case, going back several generations to when the Case family first came to Texas, but it would be WAY to long to post here, so here is the mini-version:

Justin’s father Jake Case became a Texas Ranger to discover who murdered his parents, Once he tracked the man down after a number of years they fought and Jake shot and killed the man.
Jake finally married Jane, she was later attacked while pregnant,
The night Justin was born Jake Case was slaughtered by a serial killer he was after. The killer actually turned out to be the same man who had murdered Jake’s parents, the one he thought he shot and killed and the same person who had attacked Jane months earlier. Not a man at all, but a vampire.
Justin was taken by by Padre Sebastion to his Mission and raised Justin to control hjs thrirst and violence and focus it on tracking down and destroying other vampires, which is what Justin Case does.

    Entry #2: Trinity Hearne

It seems Cliff and I were on the same wavelength. My second entry is also vampire hunter who is inflicted with vampirism. Whereas Cliff’s design is a Texas ranger, I went for a huntress that takes out what lurks in the dark alleys of the cities.

Trinity was always told that she descended from a long line of famous tenacious hunters and that the profession even birthed her family’s surname. Living in the modern age, she never suspected that she would ever have a reason to follow in her ancestor’s footsteps. However, through a series of traumatic events the way of the hunter became her calling.

As far as vampires go, Trinity is very young having only been inflicted for 7 years. She was a 24 year old college student the night she was turned when walking back to her dorm well past dark. The attack was as quick as it was vicious. In the before she could mutter a sound she was grabbed and pulled into an abandoned house. The monster wasted no time exposing her neck by pulling her hair and shoulder. It bit down with twin fangs. A hot liquid entered the wounds quickly rendering her paralyzed. The creature left after it thought it had drained her when in fact she was still barely hanging on. The process of turning was slow and excruciating. What lasted a few hours felt like an eternity of torment to Trinity.

When it was done she was frightened to discover what had happened to her. When she could move again she clawed at her silver necklace that now burned her and tossed it away. She knew of mythical monsters that drank blood and hunted at night but surely such things weren’t actually real. At home she quickly discovered that they in fact were when she went to was the blood away from her wounds to find she had no reflection.

Trinity acted quickly, taping her blackout curtains to the walls to ensure that no sunlight could make it in once dawn broke. She spent the rest of the night online looking for a cure or fix of some sort. Needless to say she found none. On one remote forum however she discovered her salvation. “Night stalkers” the group called themselves. They claimed to be a group of vampires turned vampire hunters. Intrigued Trinity lurked the site for hours learning the tools she would need to begin this new journey of hers. She contacted one of the members wanting to learn how to curb her growing hunger and to seek revenge upon the creatures that forced this curse upon her.

From then on Trinity lived up to her surname and trained to be one of the best vampire hunters in existence. She specializes in urban hunting and works restlessly to clear the dark alleyways of the monsters that lurk in the night.
