Character Design Contest ♯59- Chinese New Year

Ok, so we're going to take a break from the "Old School" challenges this week, as it was recently Chinese New Year and, whilst there have been contests based around the signs of the western zodiac on the blog before, we've never had one based around the Chinese Zodiac. So that is your challenge this week, make a hero or villain based on one of the twelve Zodiac animals shown above (that is; Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Ram, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig). It'll be interesting to see what you come up with here. One proviso, a rule specific for this week, you must use the zodiac insignias shown in the picture above. These can be found on the last two pages of Insignias- Nature.

This week there will be a limit on entries, each person can only enter once per Zodiac Sign, so that is only 12 entries per person, but since no-one ever enters that many times, I don't suppose it really matters. As usual, the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). The winner gets to claim a custom made item from dblade to be put into heromachine, so long as the item conforms to his prize rules, which you can find here: Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

Hello, it’s my first time contributing, so I thought I’d start now.

These Are NOT Entries For This Contest!
But I have been on a haiku card exchange for Chinese New Year for 3 years now, This year we had 23 people on the list.
Down from last year which I belive was 33.

2012 Year of the Dragon and 2014 Year of the Horse I did using HM3
2013 I was having trouble with accessing HM3 (which is why ya haven’t seen me around) so I did it by hand.

2012 Year of the Water Dragon

    2013 Year of the Snake

    2014 Year of the Horse

    Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu
    (Happy New Year)

  5. Cliff says:

I totally forgot that 2013 WAS HM3 too, not hand drawn

  6. Keric says:

You think I am cute and fluffy, I am, but that’s not all, I’m also deadly

  7. Cliff says:

OK this is official, I am back!
    Let the lamentations commence!
Wait a minute. Strike that. Reverse it.

I’m half-sorry to do this, but being my first Character Contest in a long while. I did do one for each sign.

Rat – Ratter, an orphaned street urchin, who took to the sewer tunnels when his home was burned down and his parents died in a fire during a plague. He found a token in the tunnels and wore it around his neck. Ever since he has become a friend to the rodents of the tunnel and they do his bidding.

Ox – Minotaur Plowman. Ox is very strong and very hard and tireless worker. He is very calm and his pacifistic nature has kept him from rebelling and hurting those who enslave him and make him work in the fields from sun up to sun down every day.
(This actually is my sign. Although for years I thought I was a Tiger. But being born on Jan 28 I had just missed Tiger. I’m not really anything like my minotaur plowman here.)

Tiger – Rakasha martial artist. Raja combats the evil and bloodlist inside of him with meditation, and martial arts learning self control and tempering his will like a fine blade.
(I love the new backgrounds. I had down this one
before, but I have learn some things since then and we have much more to play with now.)

Rabbit – Meet the latest in technology the Jump Suit. Still tinkering with back story, something like a scientist invents cyber lets to help his son walk again. He has also invented a helmet for a project, some gloves, a chest plate. While trying his helmet out he is at first overwhelmed by the blare of sound, but as he works the audio frequency selector he filters out traffic and other noises and ends up hearing voices across the street in a building. It’s about a scandle of dangerous additive and ingredients in farm crops, and it is being planned to do the same to the heirloom crops as well. The executives notice the scientist watching with the helmet on. He closes the windows and puts his projects in a vault. Several days later the scientist is killed. His son is given his stuff including enough technology to piece together a full suit. He suits up and learns to use the suit, and vows to bring his father’s killers in to justice. He takes a vigilante name inspired by the look of the suit. White Rabbit.
(I started out almost with Jackrabbt when I looked at it. Then went a total opposite way, and went high tech. I love the look)

Dragon – Dragon Fist uses technological wings and helmet, martial arts and his tremendous chi to bring evil doers to justice.

    Snake – Naga alien
Is he an ambassador from Reptilon or a scout for an alien invasion?

    Horse – Centaur Archer
(My Dad was a Saggitarius and a hunter, what he
fished or hunted for was all we had to eat sometimes. While not as good, he was also a bow hunter. So Horse had to be a centaur archer in memory of my Dad.)

Ram/Goat/Sheep – Yagi (means Goat), a satyr Haiku poet and artist.
(I have had this guy for a while. I love the new stuff that’s been added since last year. I did a far prettier hanging scroll than his first HM3. At one point I had designed his home all the way to the food in his cupboards. Yes I get that detailed. Yes, I know it’s not nessasaily a good thing. Infinate Diversities in Infinate Combinations. 😀 )

Monkey – Screaming Monkey. Not all monkeys/apes/chimps are nature’s little comedians.

    Rooster – Rooster Boy
(My great grandmother Ballard used to call me Rooster Boy cause as a toddler I had a pull string rooster on wheels. As and adult I had a rooster who had a speech impediment he would crow “Cock-a-doodle-ERK!” I know what hen pecked means, because we had to separate him from the chicken in the coop cause she pecked his tail feathers out.)

    Dog – Moon Wolf
(werewolves didn’t use to be one of my fave monster icons untill I played Werewolf the Forsaken RPG and started to listening to audiobooks of the Anita Blake series by Laurell K, Hamilton)

    Pig – Pig Boy
(OK I’m sorry. I couldn’t get Deliverance and Boss Hog
out of my head. So we have this southern fried red neck.)

  8. Vampyrist says:

Rooster is an assassin who uses his fighting skills and advanced tech in his work.

  9. JR19759 says:

Ok guy, this weeks contest is now closed. The poll will be up shortly.
