This weeks Poll Position I want to know simply, who is your favorite Starship Captain ?
Christopher Pike - The Original Captain of the USS Enterprise in the Star Trek Pilot
Jame T Kirk - Captain of the USS Enterprise in Star Trek :TOS
Jean-Luc Picard - Captain of the USS Enterprise in Star Trek: The Next Generation
Kathryn Jameway - Captain of the USS Voyager in Star Trek: Voyager
Malcolm Reynolds - Captain of the Serenity on Firefly
Dylan Hunt - Captain of the Andromeda Ascendant on the tv show Andromeda
William "Husker" Adama - Admiral of the fleet and commander of the Galactica on the new Battlestar Galactica
Matthew Gideon - Captain of the Excalibur on the Babylon 5 Spin off Crusade
Other - If you don't see your favorite captain on this list you can add him or her.
Han Solo. I don’t care if it’s just the small crew of him and Chewie. He’s still sci-fi’s biggest bad-ass.
I was going to say how hard it was to choose between Cap’n Tight Pants and Han Solo, but then Solo wasn’t included. (Is it like how one must leave Batman out of a poll to avoid foregone conclusions?)
Picard’s pretty high on my chart, too.
Catharine Janeway was my clear choice, though I may be biased as I just pulled a all-nighter “Voyager” marathon last night. She kept the Marquis-Starfleet crew of the Voyager together through 7 years in a often hostile quadrant. She is far more determined then Solo, and way more committed to her morals and doing what’s right. Also, the Voyager has one of my favorite crews in Star Trek, and Seven of Nine is my favorite character in pretty much every sci-fi movie or book I’ve ever seen.
Mal. Janeway and Picard were good but Mal’s my favorite by far.
I went with Han, since he was added (twice!), but I was rather disappointed at not seeing the *real* (Lorne Green version) Commander Adama…
We need to combine the two Han Solos…
For me it’s a tough call between Picard and Mal. They both seem to be the best captain for their individual circumstances, Picard as part of Star Fleet and Mal doing his best to survive after being on the losing side of a civil war. i ultimately went with Mal, because he’s got a lot less to work with, and less margin for error. Picard has the support of the Federation while if Mal’s not careful the Alliance will have him arrested. If the two ever went head to head, there’s no way Serenity could take the Enterprise, but you can bet Mal would find a way out somehow.
That would be ironic if the two Hans tied and still lost, wouldn’t it?
