Hopefully it won't be noticeable at all, but I increased the width of the right column to 300 pixels wide to accommodate the better-performing Google AdWords 300x250 ad instead of the previous 200x200 ad.
I also started running an ad in the HeroMachine 2.5 application.
Finally, I'm working on a method for running an ad in the designated HeroMachine 3 space, so be forewarned. I tried this before, but had trouble getting the ad to not show when you're in widescreen mode. But I'm working on it.
Any hope for a downloadable, ad-free version one day? (Although, my computer being dreadfully old, it will probably have trouble running it)
Yes, that’s something I definitely want to do for HM3, though it’s complicated by the fact that you have to have an internet connection to export the character as a JPG or PNG. There’s not a way around that.
I’m sorry if I’m stating the blindingly obvious here, and maybe you’re a Mac person, but a while back I got a new computer running Windows 7, and I was ambushed by the number of programs and hardware that weren’t at all compatible with W7. For instance, I’m now the owner of a doorstop that used to be a force-feedback joystick and several games I would’ve liked to play again.
I’m mentioning this in case you get a new computer some day, and/or maybe it’ll help somebody else.
Microsoft has a site that tells what’s compatible or isn’t, which might be worth a look if you care about what your new purchase will mess with.
And yes, I understand I could load an old OS into my new computer, but I’m too old and ign’ant, and so far too lazy to get on it, and I can live without that stuff for quite a while.
For the sake of being the least bit on-topic, Jeff, I hope you get more ads than you know what to do with. Vive la machine.
Thanks for the heads up, Jeff. It’s a small price to pay to support HM’s development so I’m happy to play along (and maybe even click through 😉 ). Is there a way of guaranteeing that the ads in the HM window are static and don’t feature video/audio content that could be a bit distracting?
BTW – with regards to the JPG or PNG export thing… there’s a little programme in Windows Vista / 7 called the Snipping Tool, which allows you to take a screenshot from a specific, controllable area of a window. You can save those screenshots as PNG’s or JPGs. Doesn’t give you the fine control of the current export arrangement, but it works, so why reinvent it?
Speaking of HM downloads, I was thinking that you could offer some of the older heromachine versions support free ( other words they will never be updated ) for like $5 each. HM Classic, HM 2.5, HM Modern Warrior, HM Horror edition, Pinup, Rockstar etc. Then when it is ready you can offer HM 3 for like $20, and updates can either be free or an additional small fee to those who already own the software.
Since the older programs are already complete you can begin selling those right away and begin to generate a little extra revenue.
Is there any way to keep Flash ads from appearing? HATE those things.
