Pop Quiz: Handy!

Happy Saturday, folks! Your one-day quick-fire challenge today is to make an illustration with any of the dozens of items in the "Hand" sets, but that has no other items in it from any of the "body part" sets. So no heads, no other hands, no feet, no arms, no eyes, no ears, no nothing that would normally come with your standard Human 101.

On the plus side, you get to decide which hand to use! So to speak. Ahem.

You only get one entry -- that's right, just one! So make it your best. Most of the other rules are the same as for a regular challenge, but instead of a whole week I'll announce my favorites either tonight or tomorrow morning. Elaborate backgrounds aren't necessary, though if you've got one it's fine.

  • All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like ImageShack, PhotoBucket, the HeroMachine Forums, whatever);
  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • Please name your files as [your name]-[character name].[file extension]. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his "Bayou Belle" character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.
  • Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this). Here's a quick-start guide on how to do that for various image hosting services.

I'll pick one entry as my personal favorite, which will get to be featured in the side bar to the right for ultimate glory! As a bonus you're allowed to say you won the Internet for a few days.

Good luck!

    Pls someone explain me what this Human 101. Sorry i really don’t understand the context. Simple “one hand” pop quiz, or i use custom hand (masking hands and use insignias) or not allowed. Thanks if someone help me.

    So, we can use one hand and then numerous other non-body/head items?

    Can we use more than one of the same hand?

    “101” is often used to designate the first level of a class. For instance, in your first year of university, you might study History 101 in the autumn term, followed by History 102 in the spring term. In your second year, you would study History 201 and 202. And so on. Therefore, “101” has come to mean “the basic information, the foundation” in informal use. For example, if you ask me what I do at the library, and I just tell you basic information instead of the boring details, I have taught you Library 101.

    Jeff is using the term here in a bit different way. He is listing examples of items that are disallowed (“So no heads, no other hands, no feet, no arms, no eyes, no ears,”) and then says “no nothing that would normally come with your standard Human 101” to cover any body parts he overlooked.

    I am not sure, however, if he means to disallow items that are body parts of things that are not human. Hopefully he will clarify.

    Sorry, I hit “post” then fell asleep for two hours. Getting up at three in the morning for a flight is hard!

    You can use one hand from any Hand set, that one item used however many times you want. So if you pick the first item in Hand-Standard, you can duplicate it a hundred times, but you can’t use the second item in Hand Standard even once.

    No items from Body, Head, Foot, Hand, Eyes, Ears, or Nose at all. Technically a torso and sleeves from Tops and a full face mask from Headgear etc. would qualify but that’s not really the spirit of the contest. Which is, “Make something with only one hand and no other body parts.”

    Hope that helps.

    Wait so we can only use one hand, guess that rules out my pic, can I get a redo Jeff since I was a bit confused too.

  7. Jeff Hebert says:

    A redo is fine, no worries.

  8. Johnny Gear says:

    When I saw the quiz today was hands, I had to do the classic hand turkey:

    Jeff, you have no idea how many obscene “one-hand” jokes went through my mind before I did something benign!
