dblade's Item Voting Machine Week 22

Each week, dblade has a poll to decide which items he'll create for HM3. This week's poll is Headgear from the artist Skywarp.

Skywarp is an artist that you can find on deviantart in the following places:

http://skywarp-2.deviantart.com/

and

http://capitalcomicsstudios.deviantart.com/

Stop by and leave some comments! As you can see his drawing style is perfect for HeroMachine. He has a lot of cool designs that would be awesome to add to the ole asset bucket.

Now's your chance to decide what artwork dblade will work on next. Whatever wins the vote will be completed the following week. This doesn't mean he won't work on other pieces. The winning piece will just be guaranteed his attention.

Pop Quiz: Ruffles

Happy Saturday, folks! Your one-day quick-fire challenge is:

Make something using this item from Neckwear!

It could be a hat, or a broach, or a pterodactyl ... Ahem. Anything, really, just so long as whatever you come up with incorporates the item into the final illustration. One caveat, though -- you can't use it as Neckwear.

You only get one entry -- that's right, just one! So make it your best. Most of the other rules are the same as for a regular contest, but instead of a whole week I'll announce the winner tomorrow evening (since I'm getting this post up a bit late).

  • All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like ImageShack, PhotoBucket, the UGO Forums, whatever);
  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • Please name your files as [your name]-[character name].[file extension]. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his "Bayou Belle" character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.
  • Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this). Here's a quick-start guide on how to do that for various image hosting services.

The winner will receive their choice of either one item or one portrait to be included in the final HeroMachine 3 release, or one Sketch of the Day style drawing where you pick the subject and I draw it how I like.

Good luck!

That's the kind of machine I'd expect two guys dressed like that to create

SODWA promo final!

Woody just sent me the final promo painting for the Super Omega Deathbattle Warzone Apocalypse game, featuring fully painted versions of the contest winners. And dizZAM do they look great! Congrats again to all the winners and to Woody for getting such a fantastic piece put together.

Sharing Day, Gravatar edition

A gravatar or avatar is the little icon that appears next to your comments on various online sites. So my question for you on this Sharing Day is:

Why do you use the avatar or gravatar you have?

I'd love a description of what it actually is as well, if it's not blindingly obvious. I really enjoyed hearing your stories about why you use the name you do online, so I look forward very much to hearing the story of your visual id too.

If you don't have a gravatar or avatar, I encourage you to make one, then post it here.

If you like, in return for answering my question to you, you may ask a question of me on any topic and I'll do my best to answer honestly and completely. Just leave your reply (and question, if any) as a comment. The goal is to learn a little more about our community!

META: Forum software update

I just updated the Simple Press forums here to add the following functionality:

  • Uploads Viewer: The new Viewer gives you visual access to all of your previous uploaded images, media and files when editing or creating a new post - complete with automatic drop into your post content.
  • Post Preview: Allows you to preview your posts before you save them - as they will be displayed when published in the forum.

Holler if you have any problems with these.

Chippendale's or Go For Blow?

In our last installment, we were standing befuddled in our apartment in the high-tech alien embrace of our new super suit deciding whether to potentially blow our nosy neighbor to smithereens or beat a hasty retreat. You'll never guess, but we decided to run!

I love that our alien super suit doesn't have a built in wifi decoder ring. They should follow the example of Jeff Goldblum from "Independence Day" and just get an Apple computer, since apparently the Mac OS has a universal translator and can hack anything anywhere, even if it's from an alien tech base.

I think Dale's one of our reporter friends, isn't he? Maybe he'll be Lois Lane to our Clark. Or maybe he'll be the Kim Basinger to our Michael Keaton and expose our secret identity! On the other other hand, it's possible he followed one of the other heroes and got bitten by a radioactive chipmunk and is now the living embodiment of Disney's Chip (of Chip 'N' Dale, before they sold out and started a male stripper business).

By the way, now's a good time to announce that Disney will be doing a live-action version of Chip 'N' Dale's "Rescue Rangers" next year.

Admit it, you can't tell whether that's a joke or not. This is how low Hollywood's creativity has ebbed, thank you very much "Battleship".

So what'll it be, kids?
